Well, after some talking and discussion, we have decided to start working on a rig for next years event. However, we are on a low budget so we are going to try and do this for as cheap as possible. We would really like to build a unlimited class rig, but I personally don't have $100,000 laying around to do it, so looks like we'll go the cheap route.

Initial plans are to build a Cherokee (preferably a 2 door, but we'll take what we can get!) with a 4.0 (or possibly a stroker if money allows), aw4, np231, a 8.8 welded up, a lunchbox locked HP30 or a Waggy 44, 35's, long arm front with about 5" of lift and some of the best shocks money can buy, stiffeners front to rear, a cage, and all of the required safety gear. We will be ditching all the glass (rules don't allow it), interior, and even cutting out the door guts to save as much weight as possible. We wont be adding any protection at all other than a front bumper that houses a good winch. I might get a little ballsy and throw in some rocker replacements (but use 2x6) to keep it from just destroying it and to add a little more stiffness to the body. However, the 3 main goals of this build are cheap, reliable, and light weight; prioritized in that order.

What we have as of now: a SYE'd 231... we'll be adding a big chain and sprocket set to it as well as a 6 gear planetary set. As you can see, we're a long way from being race worthy lol. If you have any parts laying around that you would like to donate, or sell for cheap (including a jeep!) let me know. It would be cool if NAXJA would sponsor the build, and if they do, we'll also put a NAXJA list of members that donated or contributed to the cause on the side. If any vendors would like to donate products, you will also get advertisement space. A few things we will need to buy or get donated are motor mounts (block plates and frame mounts), frame stiffeners, tires, wheels, etc... or if you wnat to donate it, we'd probably take it! haha.

Let us know what you think!

so a budget jeep speed meets rockcrawling?

sounds awesome!!!! ive got a spare dana 30 housing if ya want it. no knuckles or anything just a housing.

Who is we?

Me and Mr. Struggle himself.

I am hoping to get a whole "roller" that way I don't need so many little parts. We have plenty of time to get what we need, so no rush, but Im already pretty excited about it!

You guys need to come up from the Stuggle man cave... The liquor flowing?

Naw, it sounds like a last. Too bad I gave away that Tcase I had it would have been PERFECT for this. It was beefy as shit, and the same length as a 231 SYE from the factory, Twice as thick on the case, and the chain was huge. No speedo drive, but who cares for KOH right?

Let me see if he ever used it... that way you wouldnt have to mess with the 231. It would be 'donated' of course if I can get it...

Yep, after watching the 2011 koh movie 'Valley of the Kings'
Tyler and I want to give it a try.

Tyler will drive and I will navigate, pull winch cable and yell out the window.

We are going to stick to a small budget to try and maintain the spirit of the 'Everyman Challenge'.

Stay tuned for a build thread.

Lol! No, we came up with this idea stone sober!

Cool man! We have a team going stocker at KOH too. Suffice it to say I'll be watching this thread! :peace:

Some more things we need... 5" lift parts... Really just springs. We are gonna build a 3 link for the front &be running reservoir shocks at all 4 corners. We already have shocks for the rear, but will be buying new ones for the front.

Also need "name brand" seats that will accept 5 pt harnesses, and a bladder type fuel cell....

LOL, I keep thinking of things!

Seats: Summit has some cheap racing seats that will take harnesses

Hard to beat those

Well he said Budget..

I have the Summit racing "inexpensive" seats in my XJ and TJ. They do well for what they are but are very uncomfortable in time. Glad my truck and trailer can handle both trailer queens. :D For the price they do recline however the turning knob on both sides make them a bit wide and are sort of a pain to turn especially in the TJ where the cage interferes with them. The rails that come with them are pretty useless and only work for flat mounting areas which neither the TJ or XJ have. O and I had to re-tap one hole because they cross threaded it from the factory. Get what you pay for is the bottom line here........With that said I've been on my roof and over on my side and them, the 6 point harnesses and 10 pnt cage have served me well.

I may run ECORS next year so I may revisit the XJ seats into something better.....we'll see. :rattle:

6 point harnesses?

~ Stump

I have 5 point.... miss-typed. 6 point harnesses includes 2 subterranean belts aka double the crotch killing power! LOL!

Bman has a harness for his chin strap
