OK, so I've searched and researched and need some guidance. None of my searches produced the answer I was looking for. Even posted on LOST to see if they can help.. but nothing so far.

Working on my wife's 2003 KJ w/the Premium (joke...) Infinity System. I have replaced the OE Head Unit w/an Alpine CDA-117. Used a harness adapter to plug in directly to the OE stereo harness. I also used an adapter to utilize the Steering Wheel speaker controls. All of that is installed and working as it should be.

Now on to my question. I have a set of Alpine SPS-600 6-1/2" speakers that I'm wanting to mount in place of the blown paper Infinity speakers. I would like to do away w/the OE Amp that is on my OE speakers and just let the Alpine HU run the speakers. However... as I've been researching and reading it appears the OE amp powers all 3 speakers (Fr Tweeter, Fr Door, Rr Door) and so is it possible to cut the wires on the harness and just use 2 wires for the new speaker that is now fed off the Alpine HU? If I do this, will it kill the signal to the Rear door speakers? (Note: I don't care about the tweeters... unless there is a way to utilize them too)

Here are some pics and I could use some assistance for sure.

If I'm forced to run New Speaker wires to the front speakers, will that kill the signal to the rear speakers? This is getting a bit complicated... or perhaps I'm just making it that way. Had to step back and get some advice.

Thanks

Well I just went ahead and pulled the speaker attached amps and mounted to the inside of the door, ran the plugs out of those to the new Alpine speakers and hooked it all up. Tuner works great...

However, now the D@MN Alpine HU doesn't want to play any CDs. It seems like one thing after another.

Does anyone have any ideas if there is a trick or a setting to get the CD to play? I installed the exact same unit in my 2001 XJ about 1 week back and it plays everything just fine. No tricks or plugs to pull in order to get the CD player working... Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Update... Got a tip and it worked. Had to connect the Blue/White Amp turn on lead to the factory harness to turn on the OE Amps and in turn give sound. Now she's all working.

I was going to suggest that. You should be able to use the factory amps no problem like that, however if you'd like to ditch them all you'd need to do is bypass the factory amps in the doors and wire a three way crossover in it's place. Crossover specs dependent on what speakers are in the door.

That's an interesting idea. If the amps go out or something I'll likely go this route. I'd like to have gotten rid of them all-together and just run off the Alpine CDA-117 HU. The biggest problems is that bundle of wires that goes into the OE amp... not sure which wires are which to be honest. As it stands now it sounds good enough for my wife so it's good enough right now for me. :)

I'm running the OE Dash Tweeter and added in new 6-1/2" Alpine SPS-600s in all 4 doors. The OE 6-1/2" drivers in the doors were trashed... virtually all the speaker 'surround' was gone.

If you go that route you'd have to take the wires that feed the preamp signal into the amp (I assume it's a low level input), wire those into your harness onto the regular speaker outputs in the new head unit, then just pick up the factory wires in the door and wire in the crossover. There's probably no way to do it without some hacking in the factory harness, unless you can get lucky enough to find the pin out and repin the connectors for use with your adapter.
