maybe I can help you. what are you looking for?

a 3 bedroom house... (no ranches)

with a garage... (preferably 220v)

a decent sized yard...

in a "nice" neighborhood...

it seems I'm to avoid the NE side of Kenosha...

Pleasant Prairie seems to not have a "bad" side of town...

looking to buy for under $180K

I have a 4yr old daughter and me and the missus are thinking about another one so good schools nearby are a must...

not too much too ask for in that area right?

I think house prices in Kenosha are nutty, but their property taxes are half what they are here. I don't know specific areas, so no help there--I guess I just felt like commenting.

you can buy a house downtown for 75,000 here in Lincoln, or 10 miles out of town for about the same, only on a 10 acre lot...

:D

75k gets you a 10% down payment on the block I presently live on...

I rent on the "ghetto" side of the block...

Exactly why we bought out of the city.

You will love the space and the break in mortgage.

Good luck in your search!

I mentioned this post to my wife (who grew up in Kenosha--and we go visit friends and some of her family a few times a year) and she said your best bet is Pleasant Prairie. She said she can't recall a bad section at all.

PP is decent. My wife's from Racine and my grandparents (mom's side from Racine/Kenosha border Hwy A/Sheridan Rd). I like many areas of Kenosha and Racine, but you have to do your research. PP is good throughout as far as I know. I have an uncle who lives at Windpoint in Racine, nice area there as well.

Why Gil, just imagine all the fun you could have when Troy comes home to visit... you two could share some choice beverages!

:laugh2:

What's up with the move Gil???

Not to sure about homes in that area but a drive by of any of the area's you are considering would tell you the most. There are lots of small comunities in that area that would make a great place to hang your hat. Depends how far you want to drive. The further out you get the more house and lot you get for your money. On top of that crime becomes a distant memory. Most WI schools are pretty darn good outside of the major cities (Milwaukee), and even within the city's there are some good schools.

I do work with several people who live in that area so if you want some specific info give me a better idea of what you are looking for, i.e. are you looking at a Job in the north IL area or actually in the Kenosha Area? How far are you willing to drive, etc?

My recommendation would be to get out of town as much as possible, buy a 1/2 acre+ lot and build a new home. You should be able to build something pretty decent for $180K. If you can, aviod a restrictive subdivision, so you can keep whatever you want outside. Just a thought...
