It's a safe bet that all of us understand the underlying principal:
What goes around comes around.
Do unto others as you would have done to you.

Karma, its a B*tch....and sometimes it really should be.

Case in point.
I'm having my morning pot of coffee and I've got the news on. The local talking head is telling me about a 5 year old girl whos body was found yesterday. Her mother has been arrested and charged with Human Trafficing. Can you believe it? Selling her own 5 year old daughter for ....well you know what for.

I'm a parent and stuff like this gets to me. Breaks my heart to be perfectly honest.

The talking head goes on to relay more stories of theft, murder, fraud...on and on and on. Not a good single "Feel Good" story today. Bummer.

So I've been driving around and thinking...yeah, ubber dangerous. KARMA, those Buddhists figured it out. Do bad things and Karma will jump up and bite ya on the arse. Do good things and maybe, just maybe, something good will be done for you.

So here's a little proposition for ya. I want to do something good for someone here. How about a set of Rock SliderZ at no cost, not even freight, to 1 person. I want to give you a set as my way of delivering a little bit of good Karma to the right person. I want that one person to wake up on Dec. 26 2009 and look at this thread and be glad they did something kind and unexpected for a complete stranger....

Yep that's The Catch, The Attached String as it were.

So here's the deal, you want to be the guy or gal to get 'em, you gotta earn 'em.

The rules are simple:
Starting tomorrow all of you that are interested must perform one completely Random Act of Kindness for a complete and total stranger. Upon completion you post up here and, without going into great detail, tell me what you did.
Change a flat for an old lady.
Pay someone's utility bill or even a small part of it.
Find a family in need and make a differnce by giving them a hand up.

No, buying a wino a bottle of wine doesn't count...sorry. Think bigger and better than that.

I know you're asking yourself "Self! How can this idiot prove that anyone did anything?" Well......I can't. All I can do is place my trust in each one of you. Yeah you can make up a little story but I really hope you don't.

Either way, I'll come through and deliver as promised.

My final rule. If you're not a member of this forum (no you don't have to be a paying member) as of today then you're automatically out of the running. We don't to get over run with people signing up just to enter this little give-away.

Somehow I get the feeling that we'll all be winners when this is over and done with.

I'm very aware of karma, no sooner did I spring for a 50" Plasma I've wanted for the past 3 years than the daughters D35 in her TJ went and started making nasty and expensive noises. And here I thought I had everything covered by the maintenance agreements....BAM...ya missed one... :D :D :D

I've always felt that talking about the good deed that I may have just performed takes away some of it's meaning. I try to go about my day doing the right thing - the only reward for me is knowing that I may have made someone's cruddy day (or week, or month) a little better. I work with many self-serving people, and have for the last 14 years of my life. If there's one thing I've learned, it's how terrible the wrong words or actions can make another person feel.
Please DO NOT do this good deed simply to earn yourself a set of sliders - do it and relish the feeling - and do it again.
I read the story about he little girl this morning - I'm having a hard time just typing through this. There are some real monsters out there. My daughter @ 5:

This kid is my world - I can't even begin to imagine the amount of bad karma that would flow to the person that would ever willingly and deliberately harm a child this innocent.

I recently wrote a paper about karma. It's mind blowing. It makes sense, and with karma, I see no need for religion. (In my view)

I like this.

I don't quite believe in Karma, but I do believe in making the world a better place... I've stopped and helped two people change tires in the last two months, picked up a hitchhiking homeless/out-of-work commercial fisherman a while back, and in general just help out when I can, especially if it costs me little to nothing... I figure the benefit to the world outweighs the very minor cost to me. Also, no one's gonna do it if no one else does it, and at some point I know I'm gonna end up on the short end of the stick out in the middle of nowhere needing a ride to civilization.

Great idea for a thread. Pay it forward, but we don't need the contest. Being able to help someone is it's own reward.
I quit watching the news years ago. It's only depressing stuff.

I'm a firm believer in karma. I will do pretty much anything for anybody, unless you burn me. Burn me once and you'll never get my help "EVER" again.

For me personally, the second I tell somebody else about how I helped this person out, or did a stranger a fat favor, that special inner warmness you get from saving the day is gone. I try to help people out, and when I do, it’s my secret forever to enjoy. I don’t need a set of rock sliders now, but I’m going to continue to try and be a nice person, cause god I hate assholes :D I don’t believe in karma as a rule, but it certainly does seem that when you try to help others, things do tend to work out better for you

Must be something in the air today Frank. I was having the same feeling in a sense. It wasn't brought on by the news or a story of a tragedy like you mentioned...... just a general feeling that something positive needed to be done today.

About 2 hours ago, I talked to the other Sergeant I'm working with tonight and I proposed that he and I do something to recognize all the employees that work at the Jeffco Jail during our watch - the guys and gals that make my job and his job so much easier each and every day.

He and I are treating our 65 member staff to pizzas and soda tonight.

And should my little gesture amount to a few Karma points in Frank's giveaway.... please credit those points to someone truely in need of a set of SliderZ.
