I get up this morning to find out I've overslept my alarm and am an hour late.
I get to my shop, customer is waiting for an hour and ticked.
Finish up the customers car, jump in the XJ to head for lunch.
While driving hear a "pop" and the rear of the truck shifts to the right.
Limp it back to the shop, main leaf snapped on the passenger side.
No Biggie, I'll just throw on my rear 3" lift packs....
Odds of getting the 18 year old OEM hardware out, very slim
I pull out the torch and start heating up all the bolts.
An hour later I'm covered in rust and road salt and burnt rubber but the bolts all came out.
So I toss in the new leaf packs and go to install the u-bolts...
Yep, they're too short so off to Murray's Auto Parts I go, it's 9:45pm and they close at 10pm.
I get there knowing they stock grade 8 u-bolts, reach down to the shelf and pick up 1,2,3... 3?! they only stock 3 friggin u-bolts in each size.
It's now 9:55 and the Advanced Auot Parts down the street also closes at 10pm.
I make it to Advanced at 9:59pm the guy looks ticked as I run in across his freshly cleaned floor with my snow covered shoes.
I now think there is a conspiracy with auto parts as Advaced Auto only stocks 1 u-bolt of each size.
Back to the shop I go equipped with a little caffine in the form of Code Red.
Install the new u-bolts, reinstalled the wheels and brought the truck down to settle the springs before tightening the front and rear eye bolts.
Installed the OME shocks (the only part of this install that went as planned, lol)
I dig out my long travel driveshaft I bought in the forsale forums, only to notice it's for a 97+ (anyone need a drive shaft?), here's hoping for no vibe on the way home
This is where I notice the 3" leaf packs are just a hair taller than expected, more like 4"-5"
It's now midnight and I'm laughing to myself on how silly the truck looks.
I would install the front coils, shocks, and disco's but I still lack an adjustable track bar (ordering one tommorow).
I toss 5 batteries and my full size spare in the back to try and level the truck out a tad, it kinda worked.
Open the shop door to see the snow flying, back the rig out to let her warm up. I close the shop down and jump in.
It's 1am and I'm finally headed home. The street is a bit slick so I reach down to shift to 4hi and "pop" there goes the linkage on the t-case lever.
At this point I just keep driving, I figure the 300lbs in the back should keep the back from sliding around.
If something on the rig breaks tommorow, I swear I'm gonna set it on fire.:explosion
