Just Another XJ on tons, coilovers, 42's, etc. Build

Update:

Got the engine skid as done as I can until I pull the D60 out for its final go through. The engine skid needs fishplating so its removable as well as skinned.

Got my rear rollover catch can setup done:

With Rear Diff and T-case catch cans, as well as my coolant overflow bottle mounted:

So i'm getting really close...just trying to make sure I don't miss anything before I paint the damn thing.

I've decided I'm going to add a rear firewall, luckily that won't be much work.

Next up if making/finishing up the interior panels and a new gas pedal :D

Are those water/drinking bottles for the catch cans?

My favorite build on this site man... I will be copying/stealing ideas from your dash and console area for my build/rebuild very soon.

So another little update:

- Got my Raceline beadlocks ordered
- Got my Yukon Hardcore hubs ordered
- Got some shift boots for the cutting brakes and tranny shifter ordered
- Got the interior panels that enclose the electrical / house my speakers done
- Got the driver's side floorboards reworked and 90% done.

I'm trying to CRANK on this this any free moment I have. I'm doing my damnedest to make the NAXJA COFest with this thing July 21st through 27th.

Really the last major things to do are finish up the interior and exterior paneling. Yes, I don't really need the panels to wheel, but I need their mounting tabs in place before I paint.

I'm trying to get the few things left knocked out ASAP in order to give myself some time to do the stuff that is going to be a little bit more of a pain like brake line plumbing, finishing up wiring, ORI charging/tuning, etc.

Its gonna be close but I think I'll make it. :D

Little more work done:

Got the rear firewall pretty well done (minus the perforated steel that will be going in the middle).

How she sits today after spending most of today cleaning the garage up :D

And finally the list getting whittled away...

Oh wouldnt HF love to get their hands on that shot?! A pic of their bender in front of a well built buggy!! Love it!

Nice work btw, you are really pulling this last bit together quite quickly.

:roflmao: I'm sure HF would...though its going right back to the store! Damn thing is good for about 20* of bend with use of rags and such...anything past that and it lives up to its name of the HF pipe kinker!

Yeah really trying to bust ass on this right now. Barely over a month to get it completely done. That means approximately 8 full days of work (with time after work everyday).

Alright...time for another little update!

I've worked my ASS off lately to try and get this thing wheelable for the 21st, and was trying to get the chassis finished and painted before leaving for Steamboat for the 4th.

Got the buggy pretty well stripped down...

Parts in the extra living room:

Axles pulled and almost ready:

Unfortunately even after getting a LOT done, it wasn't 100% ready for paint.

How she sat right before I left:

Got the door bars knocked out, gussets done and a bit of other stuff.

I've had some ask about how I was planning on doing my engine skid. It mostly tacked in place:

It looks "lop sided" in order to clear upper control arms, driveshaft, etc.

Got these puppies in today too (Thanks SNEVEY!)

Going to try and paint the chassis next weekend. :D

Updates PLEASE! :)

Well...not "much" to see in the way of updates :D

It's taken me a weeeeeee bit longer to get the chassis painted than planned.

There was a bit of finish welding and little fabrication here and there to take care of...then chasing each joint with a chisel and wire wheel to get rid of any slag balls hanging around.

I got my paint booth framed up last night...ready for sheeting tonight and then i'll wipe down the chassis with some xylol. Got all the tacked to tab nuts filled with ear plugs to prevent the paint from getting into the threads as well. I'm taking off work Wednesday and Thursday and am going to try and get it completely knocked out.

Once it gets painted...the assembly should go rather quickly...so the updates should start flying as early as this next weekend.

"Stay tuned for the next installment of: WILL THIS THING EVER BE FUGGING DONE!?"

:D

Its the little crap that takes forever! Looking forward to seeing it assembled.

So FINALLY...the fukking thing got painted.

Getting the pseudo paint booth setup:

Aaaaand PAINTED!

It took 3.5 quarts to paint the damn thing...and holy hell was that not very easy. Luckily I made sure to have a tyvek one piece suit (nearly identical to what I've had to wear in pharma/biotech facilites). Man did it get hot in that suit though. Hardest was making sure everything got painted. It was NOT easy to get paint in some areas, especially crawling around on the floor trying to shoot upwards.

I'm currently in the process of cleaning the floor

In the end, came up pretty dang good. The Rustoleum Hammered black is actually more of a dark charcoal gray, but I knew that ahead of time and I really like it.

Sneak preview of what the interior panels will be painted. Photo makes the gray look more silver than it really looks in person.
