that just has to be quoted twice.

Wow, that's funny. No take backs from this point. Past the point of explaining.

Funny, when I heard that comment, I assumed he was talking about Bush getting the country stuck in Iraq as opposed to individuals joining the military and getting themselves "stuck in Iraq"...

Well not to put anyone down, but here is my experience. I certainly can't speak for every service member, or how the troops are today. I served from 85 to 91 and he's right. The general population of our troops are not the cream of the crop of the uppwardly mobile to say the least. That includes me. It is made up of a lot of people that didn't have many choices. That does not mean that our troops are not hard working, intelligent, patriotic, loyal, moral, decent people. I learned a good trade, met a lot of skilled, intelligent, people that I would have been willing to sacrifice my life for cause they would have done the same. However, compared to the general population I also met alot of unskilled, unmotivated folks with now where else to go. Frankly, I was shocked by that. I thought it was going to be the best of the best and all that Marine Corps commercial stuff. I'm not saying I'm right or wrong, I'm just telling you my experience. I don't regret serving and have always been pro millitary, but if my family would have had the money to send me to school, I would have gone. And not that I like Kerry, but don't forget he has actually been shot at. Our current Comander in Chief avoided that cause his family had the means to do so. Just an observation
I agree. As a vetran (86-92), I can remember hearing people talk about how they had no hopes for college, so they enlisted to get an education. The rich won't join the military to get a higher education.
At least Kerry has been to war. Bush has only sent others to war.
I do think that Kerry should never have said what he said. It really made him sound like an ahole, but it is in the past. Move on.
But the republican party is going to take Kerry's words, and drag them out until the elections. And they will say that this is how all democrats are because they have nothing else to complain about. Whatever!
In all of this I just want Bin Laden. I don't care about Saddam Hussain.

Bill

Ya, well it shows you what I know. Does not matter if understood what he meant, what matters is a picture from Iraq and a 1000 pissed off service members. I got to hand it to the Republicans. They might not know how to run a war, but the sure know how to run public opinion. Damn they are good.

This is the way I look at it. It doesn't matter whether he meant it the way it sounded or if he meant it as a "botched joke"

Either way he should have stood up like a man and apologized to the troops for the statement. If he would have done that none of this would be an issue now.

Never in my life have I seen a Horses ass who looks like such an horses ass.

I'm not a political person by any means but damn you couldn't be more correct!

He is a no mind, who married an heiress and became a legend in his own mind. Classic example of the *Class* think of many who live the life of the seriously rich. Many inherited (or married) the wealth and actually did very little to accumulate it, which probably required a good deal of luck, cunning and effort.
But the fact is, they got it, along with an inflated input into most things that govern the rest of us.
My son was asking the other day, how it would be to be seriously rich. My answer was, the world could do without many of the drones that run things, but would be in trouble in short order, if the plumbers, electricians, carpenters, auto mechanics, Seargants and others suddenly disappeared.
What gets me, is the guy actually feeling competant to comment on anybody else intelligence. Knowing what the IQ requirements where for Officers ( barely above average). I häve no doubt in my mind, that many of the line troops have 20 to 30 point higher IQ's than many of the officers, they are sprinkled throughout the military (highly intelligent by many standards, without the inflated ego). Many of them choose to do the dirty work, just because it needs to be done and is largely more rewarding, than playing politics at the officers club.
Not saying there aren't some good officers out there, but Kerry reminds me of the other sort. Good at self promotion, good at politics and good for taking the credit when things go well and shifting the blame when things go poorly.
I meant Ronald Regan on a few occasions. A couple of chance encounters, that impressed me with his humanity. Guy had no airs, he would look at you, not through you. Even if you were covered in dirt and grime and hadn't had a bath in awhile ( I was just returning from a three day hunt one time, had just finished snaking some pipe through a cellar another time).
A simple question, your car is broke down, cell phone is dead and you are trying to wave down some help. If Bush wasn't President, would he stop, likely. Would Kerry stop? Carter would likely stop, as would Regan and a few others. Would Hillary stop?
Funny story, I was broke, out of gas and late for duty in Kentucky (I was in the military at the time). Truck sitting beside the road in nowhere Kansas. A motor home pulls up and stops, body guard/driver gets out and asks me what the trouble is, red faced I explained, that I was broke and lost track of the fuel in my saddle tanks (carried a hundred gallons) and what position the tank lever was in. Over estimated my fuel supply. Took a three hundred mile detour I shouldn't have, to pick up another soldier. Guy goes back in the motor home and a guy in a wheel chair comes out, asks me how much money I needed, gives it to me, wishes me luck, smiles and leaves. Found out later the guys name was Oral Roberts, a famous Evangilist of the time.
Ever since, I've given most politicians, the would they stop test, just to judge in my own mind, what kind of human being they are behind the image.

Kerry had a bad rep with the wardroom and the goat locker at coronado back in 69, never associated the name till they publicized it during the elections last go round.

Intelligence has NOTHING to do with becoming an officer, the Navy, Air Force Coast Guard and Marine corps only requires a 4 year degree. I think the guard is up to 2 years of college. I took the test in the guard, found 4 questions with no correct answers [electronics section], 5 questions on music and composers and no questions assessing Honesty, Honor or Integrity, sure opened my eyes, I passed on the program. Personally I don't think you should be allowed to get a comission until you have served at least 4 years enlisted and made E5 the honest way and that includes service academy graduates...

Is gay bashing really necessary?

i just hate to see people bad talking our military, hell i salute them. They have more balls than me, ill admit that. They dont need to look at their own media and get the feeling that people hate them. A lot of them are just doing what they love (i know, sounds crazy). I just wish there was a way that we could get them out without all the reprocusions, hello, just aint gonna happen. No matter what it's a loose loose situation. I just salute every one of those soldiers, and the soldiers on this board, thanks guys.

Kerry doesn't HAVE to apologize. He's a part of the left wing elite, they can do whatever they want and the news outlets soft peddle it. If a right wing politico said something of the sort he would be villified by all media and everyone on the Left from the Pages on up in Congress would be red faced demanding an apology for such an unforgivable comment. Whether you vote one side of the aisle or another is irrelevant. This is how the political topography is. Not pretty, not reasonable, not fair. As former pro wrestler Ric Flair used to say "Whether you like it or don't like it learn to love it" Far from ideal but still the best place to live on this planet. (Tip search jeep drives on water on Youtube! we could all use some thing fun and interesting to look at about now) Back to my seat! LOL

The real tragedy of this situation is the fact that the very lives of our sons and daughters have become a political football. While I agree (to some extent) that Iraq needed to be bitch slapped, I absolutely find it criminal to send these brave souls out with nothing more than bullseyes painted on their back. If you go to war (espesially after what we were told about Iraq) then GO TO WAR! Don't ask for permission from "The World Community", or worry about political fallout due to unpopular tactics. War is won by the most commited and sometimes that is accomplished by tactics that are unpleasent and uncomfortable and yes, it WILL sometimes result in the deaths of the innocent. 9/11, the Cole and on and on......makes me sick.

And as to the topic at hand...look at the source. 'nuff said.
