I've got a Woody!

ok, so i know this is TRT's thread, but i've got a woody, too. Finally. it runs and drives, but there are still a couple bugs i wanna work out, such as the throttle cable and transmission kickback linkage not exactly reaching the carby. as of now, i'm shifting it manually, and there is a piece of wire coat hanger incorporated into my throttle cable. i think i'm gonna have to make some sort of bracket for the thottle cable, but i'm actually going to extend the linkage for the kickback, because the bracket for it bolts into the back of the head. the new motor isn't quite as peppy as i expected, but it's respectable. it won't spin 32's with the stock 3.31 gears(which also could be 2.72's, i haven't pulled the cover to see), but zero to 60 is quite a bit faster than my wifey's corolla, i know because she was complaining about it when she followed me home. i'd say by the end of the week, i'll have time to work the gremlins out of poor Maggy The Waggy. it's been a long strange trip, and i know who i WON'T be asking to build me anymore engines. i might let that guy charge the a/c, though. he tends to shine on 15 minute jobs....

Does your Waggy have a 727 TorqueFlite Chrysler transmission? If so, be careful about running them with the kick down linkage disconnected or way out of adjustment. My brother decided to do the same thing in a '74 Scout II and the trans went out. It seems like we read that it was a no-no to run a 727 with no kickdown. Be careful, no don't need a new trans too.

good call. i hooked it back up, but i'm not sure what you have to do to get it right. i drove to nashville and back today, and it made it. the trans didn't seem to shift the way it should, such as not downshifting, shifting way too early from first to second, and seemed to want to take off in second every now and then. the oil pressure guage(stock) is either malfunctioning, or i have no oil pressure also. i asked the guy to hook up a mechanical guage, but he just put a new sending unit on the stock setup. when i left his shop, i had 30 psi at idle, and 70-80 in the upper rpm range. the wire for the guage was touching the exhaust manifold, but wasn't long enough to hook up any other way. the wire isn't burnt after going to nashville and back, but i'm still gonna run a longer wire.:( i'm not gonna drive it too much more till i get some gremlins out, but for now i'm just glad that guy doesn't have it anymore.

so i found out on ifsja.org that you gotta have that kickdown linkage adjusted properly for it to function right. they have a writeup on how to do it, but it's pretty much meant for stock applications with the 2bbl carby. the jeep's getting a little better every time i mess with it, but it's not anywhere near perfect. i really need a fsj guru/expert around, or at least a mopar tf727 expert, and perhaps an edelbrock 1406 carb expert, because i went and played in the woods a bit, and when i had to crawl over a small log, the motor died every time i got a tire up and over it. i guess the sloshing pissed it of...:(

so i got my transmission acting right again!

i also let my engine warm up, and while it was warm, i tightened down the bolts on my exhaust. guess what? No more exhaust leak! the ol' waggy's coming along, and everytime i mess with her, she gets better, which to me says i'm doing something RIGHT for a change! thanks for your support, fellers!

hahahaha! yeah... how's that coming? i know you got the under hood harness...
it's plug and play from here! i have an extra double roller timing chain and gear set you can have, too. these motors are bad about tearing up the stock ones. let me know!
