Ow.
Hope it wasn't a NAXJA 'er. And that they are OK.

Incidentally, does anyone know how the process works for taking wrecked & totaled vehicles to a JY? Like, do certain insurance companies have contracts with certain yards, or is it done by which tow truck hauls it, or what? I'm just curious - it seems like most of what shows up at the LKQ near here is old stuff, rarely anything newer, so the newer vehicles must be going to other yards... but which ones?

That's an XJ alright, hope they are ok.

was a wreck here about a week ago. newer xj hit a car the xj driver was drunk. killed a 17 year old girl. injured 2 other girls. it was sad.

I've been watching that story. Dude in the XJ doing 60mph slammed into the teenagers in the Oldsmobile head on. Unfortunately, that wasn't that guy's first DUI...court records show he had 3 prior to this one.

Basically works like this:
Tow company hauls it to their holding yard and charges ins company on average $15/day storage. Which is why they want to get it out of there fast and settle up with you. If its totaled (more then 40% of retail value to repair.) then it goes to a salvage auction. Junkyards then go to salvage auctions with car dealers and the like and bid on said car. Once its bought winner then takes it to his yard or dealership. To bid at most insurance auctions you have to have a dealers license. Did I answer it all?

Ghost, thanks, yes, that does explain pretty much everything. I've never been to a salvage auction, but it could be fun....;-).

Yes there was a public one in Concord that I use to go to but it was bought out by the private one. I don't know of any around here that are public.
