i just cant see how to use this SAFELY to pull off the front springs of the XJ....

is this right?

my buddy brought it over he said its a spring compressor... i was looking at it thinking it looked off and i tried it but it scares the hell out of me the way its on... he said he has another one for "struts"

would the strut one be better?

thanks

No that wont work on a 3" I had the same thing I rented from advanced auto dont use it it wont work. I just undid everthing let the ale come loose and I coulda put 6" springs in.

the strut compressor is what you need to compress the springs, as weird as that may sound, just be careful to keep both sides of the spring at the same height when compressing so the spring doesnt pop out .

I'd be afraid to use that! I have never seen a spring compressor look like that but, what size lift springs are you putting in?

I just unbolted what held the axle up when I put in my 4" Tera coils with a 1" spacer. It all went in as well as some pinched fingers. I guess a compressor would have made it easier.

all you need to undo in the shocks and swaybar from the lower mounts.jack up the opposite side with floor jack and install the spacers.repeat for other side

you might have to undo the retaining bolt for the spring .then lift the spring up and swing the bottom off the spring pad.slip on the spacer and reinstall spring

thanks everyone, got the other compressor..

when i did the 3" lift i got them in without a compressor... but i remember it being kinda tight... wasnt sure if i could get away with it with 2" spacers.... oh well, got the compressor, i'll use it if i have to.

thanks

I have a trick that works and I have never had to use a spring compressor. Take the stock XJ jack. Flip it up side down and place it on the axle with the base pressing on the "frame". Jack the body up / axle down. Remove your sway bar. You can flex it to the point where the spring will just fall out. It takes about three minutes. Last time I changed the front springs, I did if from start to finish in 15 minutes.

i used a tow strap....flex my jeep till the spring was bottomed, went from the top coil, around the axle, to the top coil on the other side, backed down, flexed the other way, installed spacer, repeat....

prolly not how i woulda done it, but i was on vaca....had my 1" spacers made, and was goin wheelin....i needed them in to keep my tires from hittin
