now that i had my subs stolen twice... im curious is there a way i could hide a sub in my xj? i was thnkin put the passenger seat down and put it underneath, but it only looks like room for maybe a bazooka tube if that.
just seeing if theres an idea i could use if i buy a sub once again. :smsoap:

don't get a bazooka tube those things suck. Make yourself or buy a bottom firing sub box. they sound great and noone knows that's it's a sub if people see it they look at nothing but a box of carpet or mabey something that looks like a toolbox

dell....talk to jeepin audiophile....i'm sure he can give you the scoop on anything you want to know

I know somewhere(but can't find it at all right now) there is a box that uses that "wasted" space in the rear passenger side of the XJ for a 10 inch sub and box. I know it's out there. If anyone has any ideas or knows about or where to get them, you might be intrested in checking those out.

AS far as I know, they don't make they anymore. I've tried to find one too. However, I hear that they show up occassionally on for sale forums. Maybe Ebay too.

Wasn't there also a similar item to hide it inside the spare tire? Don't know how that would affect the acoustics, though.

they're sold under the name vantage. basically any car audio shop that sells JBL stealthboxes can get one. they come without a sub, but will hold most 10 inchers out there. they mount exactly where jeeper said and if you get them fitted with a cloth cover (kind-of like home stereo speakers) you don't know that it's there until you hear it.

I've tried to hide one but ended up just leaving it out in the open.

Of course, I've never had one as small as the ones you all are describing.

My advice is to secure it down as best you can and park under a good light at night.

Anyway, here's a picture of mine. Maybe you can get some different ideas from my setup.

how about this...get another box, take the sub out, put a bolt through the box, through the floor, and toss a nut on the other side...If the thief is willing to go through that much trouble to get the sub out, 1. He's dumb 2. he earned the sub...

just remember if you are going to do that, that the gas tank is right below the cargo area. So dont drill into it.

if you do buy one of those vantage boxes just check before to make sure that your sub will fit, I bought one for my old vehicle and my eclipse sub would not fit it at all the diameter was right but the speaker was too large and the box didnt have the depth that the sub needed.

I usually eat mine before, keeps it from going stale, and then noone can steal it.... :laugh3:

Joecool: thanx for cleaning up for me... I forgot to mention that, i am so used to looking at the vehicle to be sure, that i forget it's not necessarilly second nature. Good Lookin'

Only problem with that is if the thief realises he can't steal it, he may end up vandalising the interior out of frustration. This happened to one of my cars where the head unit was mounted in such a way as to be unremovable without taking the top off of the dash: the thief evidently got so angry that he slashed all the seats and bashed in the faceplate on the head unit, the damage to which cost me considerably more to take care of than if he'd just stolen the radio in the first place. Just something to consider.

What about building a custom enclosure for the passenger side load area indentation? It'd be neatly out of sight in there.
