IPOD playing on Jeep Stereo

If you can get a "station" far enough in between locals, it should be fine.

However, I usually get a head unit that has a front panel input - which allows me to plug directly in to the system. I can use my Creative Zen Nano, or plug in my laptop betwen classes (Quake II sounds REALLY good with the sub filling in the low ends!) and it's a clean hookup.

Even with short hops, RF links are subject to intereference. I use a shielded patch cable to eliminate that (twinax with a 85% overbraid, essentially.) Doesn't get rid of EVERYTHING, but it has worked better than some RF links...

Hmmm... there are allot of radio stations out here where I live. Playing the Ipod in the car is not important enough for me to buy a new head unit just to accommodate it. Oh well... I’ll stick to CD’s for now, I guess.

You don't have to spend a lot of money to get a front panel input - and you may be due for a new head unit anyhow.

I just picked up a pair of Sony head units with the front panel input at Best Buy for $129 each, retail. You may need to get a chassis kit (about $15) - but you can get that anywhere that also installs their stereos (Best Buy, Good Guys, Circuit City, or whatever.)

fm transmitters work fine but the quality wont be as great as a direct input such as front input plug. I have a head unit with an Aux input using RCAs and connected a RCA male to male 1/8 inch stereo plug and sounds great.

i have one and i love it... the plus thing is you can tune in the station in the car behind you and they can still hear your music... cool feature heh.. but yeah i have no problems with it

Has anyone had any expedience with using one of those FM brodcasting pieces that hook up to the Ipod so that you can listen to your Ipod through your car speakers?

I used one of those ("Monster" brand) for my iPod and for the Bay Area it sucked ass. Even while traveling I-5 I had to change the channel multiple times to eliminate interferance.
My head unit finally crapped out again and I got one with an auxilary input so I just hook the iPod directly to that now. Sounds MUCH better.

Whatever you do, don't get the Alpine KCA-420i. It's a total piece of crap; reasons why can be found in this thread. Apparently this year's crop of stereos that don't require an external adapter box (they redesigned them to just use a direct-connection cable) are much better, but I don't know that I'd take Alpine's word on that without some serious demo time. Be careful as the new cable doesn't work with the old stereos and the old units are still on sale.

Which one do you have? I was thinking about this one because its only $20

That one is ok, but you have to replace the battery often and it only has 4 frequencies to choose from. I have this http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=2-3/qid=1141174490/ref=sr_2_3/602-4980882-5067844?%5Fencoding=UTF8&asin=B0002WTK48 and it works great. Every frequency is available to broadcast and it charges the ipod. There have been lots of times that when I turn the unit off, there is a signal on the frequency I'm using, but this transmitter overpowers that signal. The only downside is that it is bulky.

ahhh i use to have that griffin one and it totally blewwww then my brother bought me this neat one for christmas. It plugs into the cig lighter, and your ipod then plugs into this unit. It'll charge your ipod and it also has every station available unlike the griffin were it only has select stations.

You can pretty much put this thing on any station you want and have no interference. There will be mornings that i start up my truck and the station that i leave it on, you can hear music almost crystal clear, hit the play button twice to activate the system and all you hear is your music its a nice unit

im going to go run outside and find out what the name is for you
