interesting morning commute

wow... 3 people I work with saw you on the side of the road on the way in, I missed it because I took the 94, it just registered a minute ago that you were the white XJ they told me they saw... that blows.

so did you have the road hazard on the tire? this might be covered.

unfortunately if it its covered by the vehicle insurance the cost of the tire would be less than your deductible.

haha yeah it was prime work commute time. two rubber necks even got in a fender bender staring at me. but i am glad that i didnt cause an accident with that tire rolling around. i watched my brake drum get run over a bit though.

i have a warranty through 4WP so i will call them and see what they can do. i doubt they will do much though since the tire is long gone.

and i have very minimal insurance on the jeep so im not even going to try that route.

serves 'em right... the people that slow down to look at accidents cause more traffic than the accident themselves.

talk to Micah over at 4wp, he's a good guy, hooked me up with a deal when I got my tires and gears there.

yeah hes who i got the tires and warranty from.

now to go about fixing it. do i spend the money now to get all new brake hardware, backing plate, redo the shock mount or do i just find another 8.25 for $100 and slap it in and keep this one to slowly build up? hmmmm

i just got the tires a few weeks before thanksgiving. has he left since then? and i have never had a problem with him. he gave me a great deal on the warranty for my tires.

at this point im debating on how to go about fixing the axle. do i spend money and time replacing everything brake related on the drivers side, welding up a new shock mount, getting a new backing plate etc. or do i just pick up another 8.25 for about the same price as the repair parts and slowly fix/build the messed up axle. or even sell it to recoup a little cost from the newer axle. thoughts?

I just talked to micah today, before I texted you. He's @ the el cajon store, fo sho. I've worked with him for like 10 years on probably 5 different trucks. Like you, never had an issue.

I'd just pickup another one and start fresh. Who knows if the existing one has a bent tube, shaft, etc. peace.

I hate to descent, but you guys are talking a lot of trash about a guy who maybe didn't know whos tire it was? It is very possible that he saw a nice looking 33 inch tire on the side of the road after it had come to rest. He stopped and picked it up, got back in his vehicle to drive on, and maybe never looked acroos the freeway and saw you broken down.

I will whole heartedly admit that if I found a good looking 33 inch tire on the road side, I would pick it up. If I didn't see someone in the area looking for it, I would keep it. To me, this guy is just an average person who found something. He doesn't really have anyway to return it, so he kept it.

It sucks that you lost a tire, but i don't think it was his fault.

True. If he wasn't aware of the situation and simply came across an abandoned tire then no big deal, but if he was aware of the situation and was simply taking advantage of it then I would like to deligate him the title "King Duesch". Sorry if I mispelled that one. Not a word I type too often.

i know what youre saying, but it wasnt just on the side of the road, it was in the middle of his lane of traffic, meaning it hadnt been there long, maybe seconds. so to not at least look for the source just seems odd to me. maybe this guy was really that oblivious to the whole thing but thats just hard to believe. im not mad at him personally, although it may have seemed so earlier, i am just frustrated that it is gone, period. even if it had been smashed beyond recognition by a semi, i would still feel the same about it being gone, considering thats far and away the most expensive loss in this whole incident. but like i said a few posts ago, had i taken more caution with my lug nuts in the first place, nothing wouldve happened.

if i could afford that right now i would. my main concern is getting it driveable as soon as i can for as cheap as i can

there is one for sale on racedezert.com. it was posted on the 12th i think. same tire and wheel but the wheel isnt painted. nothing a little jasco paint stripper wouldnt have fixed in a few minutes though. it does look like the lug holes are damaged a bit, but hard to tell in the pic. take a look at the classifieds, a couple pages down. ID# 5498. i printed the add just in case it goes by by. has a number to call if interested.
