Impact guns?

Anything IR "edge" series, I'd avoid. Had a composite gun, 2131QT if I recall. It was quiet, pretty strong, light weight - great gun, but it broke after I dropped it a few times. Granted I'm clumsy and you shouldn't drop tools... but my IR 231H? Bombproof. I'd drag it behind a car for miles and I'm betting it works like a charm. I vote IR 231 series - not as much torque, not as light, not as quiet as some guns - but no-joke reliability.

i have a 1/2' Ingersoll titanium and as everyone else says great gun had a snap-on before that was way too loud and broke a lot and i have a 3/8" Matco gun that i bought at a pawn shop for $60 new its $200something and it works great torquey little s.o.b.

so the best advice for you is go to your pawn shops great deals on very expensive tools

Oh - and another thought -
depending on your experience / trigger feel / judgement, you may not want the baddest gnarliest torqueist gun you can get.
Why? because broken bolts will shit all over your parade & your plans for the day. Better to spend 20 seconds to break things free with a bar when you run into something stronger than your gun than to even once have to extract a broken bit or restore threads.

I agree here.

IF your not working with 1/2" hardware min regularly, then just get a reliable good gun...

As I posted earlier, I've been running a 2131QT professionally for about 5 years now and have had no problems at all. Granted, I don't usually drop my air tools. :D

And y'know, neither do I anymore... I miss the QT's quiet, too - but it didn't hold up in my clumsy newbie phase.

On the cheap end of the spectrum, I've had great luck with my Kobalt twin-piston (something like $80 at Lowes). Been running 3 years strong, and has been beaten to hell. I think it maxes out at around 550 ft-lbs but it's been plenty for me.

I'm prepared to catch all kinds of crap for this so go for it. I have the HF 1/2" Earthquake Pro and have beat the crap out of it and it never fails to amaze me. Prior to this, I had a Craftsman which cost almost twice as much 12 years prior and worked half a good until it finally quit altoghter.

IMO can't beat the HF for the money ($72 on sale with 20% off coupon).

I have an old aircat ac1000 that a co worker gave me when he broke it. After investing $100 in clutch and anvil parts, ive gotten 3yrs solid professional daily use.

I call it "Gunzilla". Best $100 I've spent to date.
