Im looking for some new air tools. Tired of the cheap shit that doesnt have enough power. What do you guys use. Im interested in a 1/2 impact, 3/8 impact and a 3/8. Butterfy impact. Im not looking for the best and highest priced. Just good and fair priced. So far hf and sears craftsman arent doing the job.

I use a Cromwell 1/2" that's rated to 550ft/lb

I'm pretty happy with it, I've buzzed unit-bearings/axle shaft nuts to 200ft/lb fairly easy

I like my Ingersol Rand thunder gun, the big heavy yellow nascar one. It has been awesome and isn't that pricey at all. I know everyone likes the cool composite one but honestly for as much as I use mine, it being heavy is not an issue. I want the cool IR composite 3/8th though for lighter duty stuff. It also sounds awesome, I've had it for years and I still pull the trigger a few times just for the pure fun of it every time I use it.

My thunder gun also zipped off the unit bearing nuts and pitman arm nut. Check amazon, they have good prices all the time on IR stuff.

I am not sure what your budget is, but I can also vouch for IR.

I have one of their titanium models and with it turned down and my air pressure at 90psi, I have spun heads off bolts. The gun is very light, decently quiet (which is important to me), and it has had sufficient power to take off any rusted off bolt/nut I have needed it to. About the only downfall I can think of is the price.

Just my $.02

Another Ingersoll rand fan here.

I'm rockin the IR 2135TiMAX 1/2" impact. Tons of power, and is adjustable too for the lighter stuff. Breakaway torque is pretty crazy something like 1100ft/lbs of torque. Zips things off that our 3/4" snap on impact (big Bertha) can't.

They also have a quiet model (QTi) that is pretty impressive.

I have the Ingersoll 2131QT that I've been using professionally for about 5 years now. It has a decent amount of power (rarely have to use something else to take a nut/bolt out) and it's QUIET so I'm not deaf after using it.

Look into the air cat impacts they are priced great and seem to have a good amount of power. They have one listed at 1200ft lbs. loosing torque. That's my next purchase. Tooltopia.com is a great site and I've order many tools in the past few months from them. Plus free shipping on orders over 75 bucks

I have 2 Aircats and a Nitrocat. I Love Them all.

I do nothing but differentials. I use them A Lot. All are 1/2" but one aircat is older and great for most things. But I prefer my Nitrocat for crush sleeves, metal lock nuts in 3/4" and up thread, and pulling bearings. Not to mention they are very nicely priced, and their customer service is Awesome! Ever have a prolem and they likely will just cover it no questions. And even when it is something more then a cleaning and such, they still seem to not care how long I have had it. They do have a 2 yr warranty though from what I remember.

Sears, pretty much is no better then Harbor freight, but the earthquake gun at HF does more then most other generic ones, if thats more your price level...

beat the shit out of my IR in tech school, while I watched the HF and craftsman guys have theirs fall apart and lock up.

I have had the IR 2135's in different varieties, currently own The Matco version of the TIMax, which has a grease fitting for the shank. No issues.

I have the Blue colored cornwell 1/2" rated at 1200 breakaway. been using it daily for 6 years now. never once has given me a single problem. Has even gotten stuck crank bolts out that a fellow tech's snap-on gun couldn't (also rated at 1200lbs but twice the weight). You can get the same gun through napa, its just labeled differently. I think they call it Torque Dominator. Others I work with have gotten this gun after the Cornwell guy went out of business in our area and they couldn't get the cornwell labeled one. Here is whats on the website...

Lightest & Most Powerful 1/2" Drive Available, Twin-Hammer Supplies 1,200 ft lbs Breakaway & 800 ft lbs Maximum Applied Torque, Redesigned w/ Smaller Nose Cone Is Ideal For Working In Tight Areas, Variable Speed Trigger Provides Precise Control, all why weighing only four pounds. Give this tool a try and it will change your world. Run into your nearest NAPA Auto Parts and ask for the Torque Dominator, part number NPT 6-1123.

That impact looks good on paper. Is the trigger really that exposed though? That would scare me. I am Not nice to my impacts....

Ok so...

I have 1/2" nitrocat and aircat impacts, both are over 2 yrs old. I use them to their max at least a few times a week and even more for basic needs...

I asked wife for 2135 ti IR impact for Christmas.

The ir is a bit faster rpm it seems but not as powerful when using it to remove bearings with a diff puller.
