Sung to the tune of "In the Jailhouse Now". I'm in the dog house now!
We've had the little XJ for about 8 months now. My wife was determined to buy a vehicle I don't have to work on. Given our budget, I knew better. Having her pick out something she liked would make my blood, sweat, tears, and paycheck a worthwhile investment. After 8 months of blood, sweat, tears and paychecks, I'm ready to take at least one of the twins and go play:
Can I take Phillip_g's advice and check out Dakken Road? Noooooooo!
Can I take my own advice and take Oh-My-God Road to Russell Gulch? Noooooooo!
Instead we took State Highway 72 through Wonderview and Pine Junction, headed for Moffat Road to see the Needles Eye, and maybe check out Jenny Creek Trail.
We started late in the day, the weather was perfect all the same.
When we made the road to Corona Pass it dawned on me that the recent snow had melted off. This is the first time I've been here and not choked on clouds of dust.
As we started up Hill Road I was glad we didn't go on some ho-hum boring drive.
By the time Needle's Eye was in sight, the sun was getting low in the sky.
That made for some pretty dramatic lighting.
We checked out Jenny Lake, took a few pics. As we descended to Yankee Doodle Lake, Jenny Creek Trail was visible meandering off into the woods.
"This don't look so bad! On the map it looks like it's shorter than the way we came in."
OMFG! The pics stop here on the grounds they may incriminate me. That, and my focus was on getting out once we were commited. My years as a shipping/receiveing warehouse dog came into play: The clammy, nervous sweat. My finely tuned butt-o-meter feeling the weight transfer-or not. Assesing a situation, improvising plan D after reviewing plans A,B, and C. Stacking things; like rocks. Holding my breath, waiting for a $130 "CRUNCH!" on my new gas tank.
We made it out OK, dinged a rocker. Do I get a bumper sticker that says "trailkist"? We got home 2 hours after bed-time. The Mrs. was pretty worried, we ruined the Bronco game for her. All we could do was smile like a couple of sailors back from shore leave. After getting my boy squared away, I did go out again. I filled the gas tank and hit the car wash: Yep, the one that takes credit cards. She said no more wheeling until I can install some heavy duty parts. Seems Triple A won't tow us home from the woods. Maybe by Spring-time...
