I'm cursed

Idiot Wind drove down yesterday and we hit Spinney Mountain Ranch. It was a beautiful day. The rainbows and cuts are spawning. Don't know if it was b/c I hadn't fished in a while, or I'm cursed but I lost more fish yesterday than I have in a long time. Still though, I do believe I am the happiest when I'm on the river. We didn't get too many pics b/c of the snow and I don't think either of us wanted to stop fishing. Thanks for a fun day IW. We'll do it again real soon.

This one was fun while she lasted but she bent the hook on 22 Pheasant Tail and got off.

I must be rusty b/c this one actually flipped out of the net somehow and slapped me in the face before taking off. Tasted good though.

Ohhh many that looks like a blast. I tell you I love fishing. Looks like a good catch as well. :)

edit: Also, how do you like woodland park? Been meaning to ask you for a while. I'm considering the move to CO and i'm looking at locations. (Don't mean to hijack)

While I love fresh water there's just something about having the whole family on a nice 35ft'er, two stern lines and two outriggers out and hitting a school of nice blues. Almost as nice as 'The Burn' after 20 minutes of serious jigging and laying into a 50lb striper...
Hoping to getout a few times this summer when we're up on the cape, usually charter out of rock harbor onboard the Columbia...

How dare you hijack this thread sir.

I actually could do a smaller town. I'm a sucker for the old mining towns. I went for a teaching position in Silverton and then turned down one in Buena Vista. Woodland is cool. It's kind of losing that funky, small town mountain feel. We have a Walgreens and a Wal Mart coming soon. They're tearing down the outdoor rodeo arena for some shittin movie theater. I suppose this is un-escapable though no matter where you go. Damn urban sprawl.
It's good though b/c it's close to the Springs and we're the last decent sized town. Pikes Peak looms over town. Theres 2 ways out of town and either way you have wonderful fishing. For the most part, the people are nice (although it's always what you make of it). There isn't a day that goes by that I am not blown away by the beauty. Missouri has some wonderful things but I am definitely happier since the move. Our pop, is about 6500 and I wanted to be at elevation so I got that (8500).

The only negative thing I will say about WP is that it's kinda cut into the side of a mountain so there's hardly any flat streets. I'm 1.5 miles from work and riding my single speed mountain bike is a chore on the way home. I can almost coast the way to work but coming home sucks. This is why I bought 2 wheels with a motor.

Are you using a water ballon for an indicator?

Good eye Karstic.

It's the best thing I've come up with. It'll float all damn day with zero maintenance, I can change the depth fast, and it NEVER freezes up and becomes a popsicle when the conditions are cold and best of all...I can tie a boat anchor on the end of it and work those deep pools and it's still the most sensitive thing I've tried. I get a lot of looks and laughs when I'm out but I'm not sure it's really b/c of the balloon. Plus it's colorful and they're balloons man...who doesn't wanna play with play balloons?

no, no it's the balloon for sure. of course it took me 5 minutes before I asked if you had another :) hands down the only way to go when hitting a deep pool during the winter months.

I call hang up on the first photo...
and photo shop on the second photo...

j/k... lol

Looks like you had a good time. Great pics

Oh and if you think that being out on water like that and catching, or losing fish like that is being cursed.

I hope to have the same curse as you.

Trout that size around here are few and far between. Unless you go to a "buy" the pound stream. I have caught natives (non stocked) upwards to 15" around here but not very often.. I never keep the big ones like that, I sometimes keep a few around 10-11 to eat. 9" size limit on natives around here..

I get just as giddy landing a 12" native cutt as I do the hogs like that one riverfever landed. One of these days I have to go out east and fish for the native brookies. Funny, many people out here consider Brookies trash fish. Never quite understood that one.

TRNDRVR, that sounds like one hell of a vacation.

Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day. :D

No more like

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day.
Teach a man to fish and he'll go broke.

Should be fun and really looking forward to it. It'll be my second Alaskan fishing. I'm just teasing riverfever. ;)

Oh...I'm sorry...I must have been too busy today at work to tell you this:

Damn you TRNDRVR...I can't be mean and wish anything for you but a good time, cold brew and HUGE fish. All I ask from you is that you provide me with good quality pics that I may peruse during my "private time."
