Ignition Upgrade

Is it worth the extra cash (extra $75-$100) to upgrade my ignition system with the Firepower System or MSD or Accel products?

Do they really provide better performance and/or better gas mileage?

Can the spark plug gap really be opened to 0.065"?

It's time to replace the plugs, wires, rotor and cap anyway.

Thanks,
Barry

1) Not on a stocker

2) I'd think it would be marginal. There are other reasons for performance to suffer from the factory. The ignition is usually quite effective already.

3) Probably, if there is enough energy in the spark. However, it's of marginal use on a stocker.

Ignition upgrades are going to be rather more useful when you're working with forced induction, nitrous, or increased compression (like on a stroker, or using pop-up pistons.) So, if you're still using a stock engine, you're better off spending the money elsewhere.

You won't notice a difference except in your pocket.

I did the Performance ignition upgrade, I also needed to change out the wires and plugs... in the long run It is a hell of alot nicer quality stuff than stock. (mine kit is all red matching:shhh:)

But if it is like others are saying here, go with the ACCEL and save some dough. ($100) heck you can put that 100 twards a lot of other good stuff. I think theirs even comes with the plugs.
