That would also go poorly in parking garages - remember that the D pillar is angled in as well as forward. When the hatch "opens" remember that those angles will be added together, I would guess that the bottom edge of the hatch would end up pointing up at about a 30-40 degree angle.
EDIT: also... not sure why you'd do that. Maybe you like the look more? I can't see it helping me load stuff in very much, and it would mean I can't use the hatch as a roof while sitting on the tailgate eating/working in the rain.
