I searched and searched

But what I'm not getting is that with my ultra guage is reading the same temp as the guage. So could both sensors be bad? Because my obd port scanner is reading exactly what the guage reads. Does that moe sense? This is the guage thing that plugs into the obd port and the top left number is the coolant temp and this number will read the same as the cluster guage.

The counter people usually cant remember this:

Temp sender = gauge use only and is the small one in the back of the head
Temp sensor = computer uses this reading for engine temperature and fan controls, larger one located in the thermostat housing

Re: Heating issue

but once i get home i will be checking on the plugs and making sure that they are clean and in good condition.

Update!!!!!!

ok here is an update on whats going on. Ok so i started the jeep up in my garage and took my IR temp gun and check temps at the actual thermostat housing (temp'd it where the sensor is threaded into the t-stat housing) and it read at time 20 degree difference. I also got my temp gun down to where that second sensor is on the back driver's side of the block and it read about a 10 to 20 degree difference. So maybe the sensors are the problem. Has anyone else had this problem???

Re: Heating issue

ok so i just unplugged the thermostat sensor and it read -40 on my ultra guage which reads off the OBD port and ran fine. and when i unplugged it, it through a P0118 code

Does this look like it could give me false temp readings?

I Unplugged the sensor from the t stat housing while the jeep was on and it ran fine but the temp went to
-40? So I pulled the sensor out of the housing as this is what it looks like.

Re: Does this look like it could give me false temp readings?

Temperature gauge readings are verified with an IR temperature sensing tool pointed at the thermostat housing. Unplugging a sensor does not test its function or lack of function.

I merged all 10 of your cooling threads... it should be easier for people to follow the issues symptoms and attempted fixes you have taken so far so they get the whole picture before answering now.

It's a mod-only feature... the way to combine them is to keep using the previous one instead of creating another new one.

i know but sometimes when im at work i can only do something real fast and most the time im on here is at work haha :) and I dont want to have to search for my thread most the time. But i will do it or try to from now on. So i wonder if anyone will chime in on this thread though. That is why i normally start new threads is because people tend to not reply to older threads i have witnessed!

All threads you have created that contain new posts should be listed in your user control panel, I think.

ok so today my jeep reached 221 and then i got into the parking lot and let it idled with the ac on and it cooled down to about 213.8, then got out and took my temp gun and put in on the thermostat housing right by the sensor and it read 203 degrees so there is a 15 degree difference. why is the sensor reading 15 degrees hotter?

somebody please chime in. This is really starting to piss me off that this thing is heating up like this not to mention heating up when its only 85 degrees out!

Obviously the sensor is either bad sending the wrong temp, or your gauge.. so, go buy a new sensor... or just go by your ir gun and call it good cause that is showing you are at a good temp.. 203 is not overheating...

i know that and i think my jeep is running at 215 because and ir temp gun is only reading surface temp and not actual coolant temp. so what i think i will do to test the sensor is get some hot hot water and get a good thermometer and then stick the sensor in the water and see if the sensor reads the same as the thermometer.
