I may finally have an XJ!

4800 bucks for a car you can plan on driving for the next 4 or 5 years for with standard MX seems like a good deal to me.

Throw a 2inch lift on it and call it f'ing perfect. If you find yourself wanting a 4wd you can prolly do it for less than 2000 easy or just throw a locker in the back and be awesome.

Ive thought of this, and I actually like the idea of a 2wd with a locker on it. Almost like a sleeper!

I'm starting to think that the days of the cheap XJ are waning. So many guys are discovering that it makes a great wheeler and it's driving the prices up. CJ's are outrageous now and even YJ's are high, IMHO. You can find TJ's for decent prices but that'll change too.

GAA! This is killin me. So, more bad luck. I told the guy I just wasn't sure enough about the Jeep and that unless I change my mind, I just have to pass for now.

BUT, I found another Jeep...a 2-door Sport 4x4 with 50k miles, for $6995. It was four and a half hours away, so I called the guy to let them know I was coming to look at it. He said that there was another person who was interested and that he would make sure they werent coming and call me back. Sure enough when he called me back, he said the guy wasn't going to be able to make it today and that I was good to come on. So I got on the road, and 45 minutes before I get there, I get a call. "Sorry sir, but the Jeep just sold."

"WHAT! Why would you even show it when I know that I am driving to see it from the next STATE!"

Some may disagree, but I feel as though that is BAD business practice. Some things are more important than a quick sale, in my book. If I would have gotten there and hated the thing, the other guy would have been just as interested, if not delighted that the Jeep was still available. My 2 cents...

On another note, I am still looking religiously. I ended up trekking as far as Roswell, GA, this weekend in my pursuit, which was 7 hours from home. Still empty handed!

Dang man, this is quite the serious of unfortunate events here.
Good luck with your search...

I will go search auto trader for you haha.

EDIT: After looking through autotrader.com for cars near zip 30075 (correct me if i am wrong on that one.) All the XJs out there seem to be very overpriced. Its kind of insane.
He is right, you cant find an <100k xj for less than 7 grand.

Ok, so I may be going to look at another this evening. The price seems a little more reasonable than average. It's a 2000 Sport 4x4 w/100k miles, desert sand exterior, Brown interior (which I prefer I think.) She's asking $4500 and it's only a couple of hours away. I'll let ya know how it goes. I have to say I wasnt too fond of the sand color originally but it's growing on me I think. How do you guys feel about it?

It looks good with black accents like powder coated bumpers and wheels.
Its not my favorite color, but I think nearly everyone who buys an XJ wishes they had a different color after a while.

This seems like a good deal, I would go for it.

that's not a problem... since you don't like the color that just means you have a reason to paint it whatever color you want!

voting for olive drab or camo :yelclap:

My heart beats for olive drab...talking the lady into it would be the difficult part! Her taste is just not as refined!

Tell her she gets to choose the color you reupholster it in, if you get to paint it olive drab...

dude I f'n love the desert sand color. there almost as rare as the yellow. definitely better then black or dark blue or silver. there nice but EVERYWHERE!

seriously man, just pick one. I know its a big decision, but any you have shown are decent vehicles. At best your looking at a perfect but still 8 year old vehicle. At worst, you pay a little less and make up for it in a few initial repair bills. Just look for a good body and sound drivetrain and go from there. This isn't national security were talking about here, its a jeep. They all kick ass!!

Heres two that are close to me

99 Desert Sand limited with 59K

2001 Red 2wd with 17,000 miles!!! About as nice as they're gonna come!

Wow, what a small world. I actually tried to purchase the red one. I made an offer on it, and the owner told me to wait over the weekend. Then he sold it the next day...for the same price I offered!

On a better note, I'm going to pick up my XJ this morning! I ended up going with the sand colored 2000 Sport 4x4 with 100k. $4400 cash. Very good condition. Maintained METICULOUSLY. Only problem is the clear coat looks like it's starting to let go on the hood in a couple of spots. Not too bad of a trade-off considering the price. Pics and details to come!

...in all her glory.

Got the stuff to spray the plastic trim tonight. I'm using Duplicolor Trim Paint. I've read that it's a more permanent alternative to Forever Black and the other dyes/waxes.

My only other issue is at idle, especially with the A/C on, the engine seems to resonate at a certain frequency and vibrate the whole car. Anyone have this issue? I was thinking it could be a bad motor mount?

2wd's around here are dirt cheap. I see them that clean all the time for less than $3500. Hell I saw a 99 4wd that still looked brand new (right at 100k on the ticker) the other day for 3400.00.

Glad you went with a 4wd man! I am not too fond of the color but that thing looks sharp.
