so im heading back to my home in Georgia, and my GPS is set of the fastest and shortest route. well right now im out side of texarkana and im heading up I30 rather then I20 so according to google maps im going about 2 hours our of my way to get home. i hate the retarded thing! it always trys to kill me or get me lost.

That is why I don't use GPS unless it's a Lowrance GPS. And that is also why I write down directions ahead if time. And that is also why, I never get lost, because I don't rely on a Tom Tom GPS to tell me where to go. I know where I'm going ahead of time. Now, as for my trip this summer, I need a Baja Lowrance GPS. Anybody have tips for me?

Heres my GPS........................

i agree... i only use my gps when in town to find what im looking for...but first i use a map to plot my route...just got into it with my 18yr old step son cause he listend to gps instead of me after i told him which way to go....he got lost...serves him right........

Alot of people use those stupid things on the ambulance. It gets them lost or takes them the long way around things.

One guy I worked with couldn't go anywhere without using his GPS. So one day when we hit ALOT of traffic, I told him to go another way. The GPS tried so hard to get him back on the track it wanted him to take that it froze up and wouldn't turn off. He had to wait for the battries to run down, recharge it and then it worked again.

lol that's sad.

Why would you rely on a GPS when all you gotta be on is I-20, 75, 316?

Hahaha that's what I told him. You know, there are street signs for a reason. They guide you the entire way.

What do you mean by "fine tuning?"

A buddy of mine relies on his GPS so much he gets lost all the time, that and he has not updated his maps on his, so they are old routes

I trusted the GPS directions once and once only, it tried telling me to turn left when I was on a two way two mile bridge going over a lake, no thank you. I will rely on roadsigns and mile markers.

I take a quick look at google maps or a real map to figure out a general route first, but use GPS as a backup and also to tell me all the crazy turns in-town at the end of the trip, for that stuff I much prefer being talked to rather than trying to read/remember my directions while wandering around a town I don't know in the dark. Usually gets me there in pretty decent time.

thats why whenever I move to a new area, I purposely go out and get lost that way I learn the area fast.

I do that all the time. I just barely got to know the Plano area last week. :D

I have a habit of just driving around when I have nothing else to do (I think it comes from when I was a cop, LOL, a lot of driving around bored), so i usually learn my way around places pretty quickly.

I didn't know you where a cop! Where you an astrounant too?
