I'm a teacher and the only friggin computers the district uses is Macs. Oh, let me take that back. The attendace lady gets a trustworthy PC. Can't mess her computer!!! This morning my computer locked up because it wouldn't let me copy documents from my jump drive. Open too many windows = crash. Look at it funny = crash. Type a huge document without saving every 2 minutes = crash.

Server is slow = slow computers. WTF? Our server was replaced with a temp older/slower one. Somehow this slowed my computer while typing. I would type a sentence and 5 seconds later it would appear. Powerpoints I have made with my home PC rarely work on the Microsoft version of p.p.

Aghhhh. I f-ing hate them!

Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak eat a fat one!

I love my Macs, they run fast and smooth. I bet your problems are due to operator error.

When you save your PC powerpoints format it for a Mac and it will work at school for you, duh!

Or running OS9 down. OSX made life with Macs soooo much better there's no comparison between it and what came before.

What he said, before OSX I was so disinterested in Macs I couldn't even spell it.

it also depends on the network as well.. I've seen this happen because the network had to be locked down so tight that it'd cause problems (lock down badly done) due to the kids f'n with the computers and stuff. It pisses me off that the kids show no respect towards computers in their educational environment at all.

What everyone else said. Most schools have older machines. They get their machines based on a contract that normally doesn't include upgrades. It is usually cheaper for them to buy new machines rather then upgrade all of the old ones. Niether of which ever happen. The only PC I own is a laptop, and thats simply because the rest of the world hasn't caught up to us Mac Users. You couldn't build a desktop PC that I would give my Power Mac G5 for.

P.S. If your whole district uses Macs, and you have no intention of finding a different job anytime soon. Maybe you should re-evaluate your home computer choice.............:dunno:

I tried to put OSX on my Emac. Tech a-hole swooped in late at night and took it off. No new software is allowed to be uploaded either - even education stuff. Our network is also super tight because of the kids surfing porn, gore and games.

91Jeep - if school provided me a set-up like yours I would stop my bitching and eat my words. Until then Macs will remain on my sh!tlist...

Maintaining proper software licensing compliance is not being an asshole.

The eMac is a good machine and shouldn't have the issues you report. I am sure that the problem is the machine's and / or network / server setup.

Wait - you have an eMac *without* OSX on it? What'd they do, install them all with OS9 or force a boot into Classic mode?

Every single comp in school has OS9 except for one that we cannot log on to.

Sounds like the district IT dept has an ID-10-T error.:)

ANY newer Mac should be running OSX only, anything less is a waste of electricity. I have over 50 under my thumb and they have no issues at all. Believe me... if they did, I'm the first one they bitch to.

i have had macs since i was in 3rd grade. would NEVER even consider a PC. my family bought a 1.6 ghz g5 tower right when they came out. thing is unbelievable. in 3 or 4 years i have reinstalled the OS once- and it never lets me down. I edit digital video, handle about 35 gigabytes of music in itunes (WHICH, FOR ALL YOU PC USERS WHO THINK ITUNES GREAT AND YOU ARE SO SPECIAL, IT IS INFINTELY BETTER ON MAC. IT WAS NOT MADE FOR YOU, IT HAS JUST BEEN ADAPTED TO FEED YOUR CONFORMING MINDS.), and do everything else.

There is one thing I cannot do that Windows users can, and that is play badasss games.

Oh wait, they just switched to intel chips, which solves that.

I guess Windows isnt better in any way now.

And even though the OS is not changing, a lot of poeple seem to think its not a Mac with an Intel chip and that it is going to become a pc..............is an XJ with a v8 swap still an xj, or has it now become a 4runner? I don' t think so. Same rig, different motor.

I ran Virtual PC for awhile to play counter strike with my friends (for those who dont know waht virtual pc is- im way too lazy to explain) - I find it slightly ironic that Windows received the blue screen of death on my Mac, and i simply force quit virtual pc, and continued with everything else i was doing.

There's your problem right there: your sysadmins are morons. If they knew what was good for them (and everyone else), they'd be running OSX instead of that sorry POS excuse for an OS.

except for one that we cannot log on to.

Which I'm willing to bet is the server, probably an Apple XServe.

On a tangental note: stopped off at the Apple store on the way home tonight and played with one of the new Intel-based desktops. OMFG are they nice. Dunno how to describe it; they just feel snappier than the G5s.

Is this the new Mac Book?

Edit: Wow, didn't even read that. Nevermind me............ :paperwork

Though the mac book does have the Intel Core as well.

Running OS10.3 and love it. Have an iMac 1.8 G5 w/1.25GB RAM and an iBook 700 G3 w/ 625 MB of RAM. I will NEVER go back to a PC!

Run your disk utility and correct your permissions occationally, and also run a defragmentation software once in a while.

Or, you may have displaced Root files- reinstall your OS if necessary.

Most things I try causes a window to pop up that says "you do not permission at your level" or something close to that. NO software can be loaded - period!
