I swapped injectors! Wow what a difference in even just the start up and idle. So much quicker and smoother. The old injectors had soo much carbon and crud caked on them. I looked in the ports and much the same. Any suggestions on how to clean that out without knocking it into the cylinder? I'm afraid to actually look into the cylinders.

Oh, its and 89 4.0, and 19 lb. mustang injectors.

Pull the intake and rebuild the top half.

What is involved in rebuilding the top half? Done right, how much we talking about? With 198k on it, maybe just build another motor? Thanks! Jeff

There is a thread on here somewhere that is titled how many miles on your stock xj, or something to the effect. Check it out. You will see you have low mileage in comparisone to those who posted. If I recall correctly there are numerous pages of posts.

You may decide after reading it that you don't wont to do anything further to your motor and see how long it lasts. It is all a guessing game though.

Rebuilding the top could be done in a weekend if you have any skills at mechanics what so ever. You could just pull the intake/exaust and clean it up which may help a little. Or, you could also pull the head and rebuild. Thats where you may want a machine shop to redo your head.

The real question is, is any of this necessary? Only you can decide if it is worth the work.

right on. thanks afd. I saw that thread. I'm leaning towards driving it till she blows and drop in a new motor. It is my DD, so no wheeling is done in it. Hell, it ain't even lifted yet. Thanks agian. Jeff

Now don't put words in my mouth for this forums sake. Have you seen how they get on noobs like us. LOL

I am NOT saying don't wheel it. It is a jeep for jeeps sake and an xj at that.

I am not saying to test its limits but it sure won't hurt it to take it offroad and have some fun. As a matter of fact, I would say do it just to get time behind the wheel and learn your limits and its limits and upgrade to your preference.

From one noob to another, search, search and search again before asking or you will get a lashing! You will most likely find what you are looking for.

I am new to the offroad world and this forum but not to motors and mechanichs.

Glad to of been of some help.

Sam
