Hydraulic Winch

Has anyone installed a hydraulic winch? If so what sort and did you connect it to powersterring pump?

I don't have one but, I've seen one and how it was attached.
The one I looked at used fittings to attach it to the powersteering pump.


High pressure from pump to inlet of winch, from outlet of winch to inlet of steering box, from outlet of steering box back to pump

yeah, attach thru fittings with the steering pump...basically taps inline with the hoses.

downside with hydraulic winches is that the power steering pumps on a Jeep only put out enough oomph to make it a slow running winch.

now, if you could power it with a more impressive hydraulic pump...it could perform...like this

Not so sure you'd want your winch to go that fast though.

Where could you source a pump like that (more powerfull than powersteering pump)? And would you just set up a totally independent system do you think? If you were to use the powersteering pump a inline cooler would be the go I think?!

maybe this. we run these on our lightduty wreckers. with an idle control, they move pretty fast.
