how structural is the windshield?

I would replace it with a jy glass when time permits and run the old one till then. Windshields dont shatter and if its not too bad that you cant see through it, just run it.

if windshields are or arent needed for stability is a moot point as you dont plan to run naked, lexan would suck, and metal grates would be more work and not work as well.

Here's my XJ that I rolled in '06. As it was, the roof was caved in enough to scratch the top of my head. IF the windshield had not absorbed a lot of the impact, I'm sure that I would've been more seriously injured.

So I'm sure the windshield is structural. But by what percentage, who knows?

And here's the plexiglass windshield we fabbed up so that I could drive the Jeep home from Lake Tahoe. :D And before anyone says anything, the duct tape was just to keep the wind noise down. The plexiglass was screwed into the body.

You're the one throwing around complete nonsense and hyperbole.

I'm done with this... I've said my part, apparently the people who are paid to install windshields and the people who design cars agree with me that urethane adhesives are stronger than silicone. It's your call, you can stick your head back in the sand and pretend it's the same thing, or wise up.
 
OK, Enough... I have no doubt the windshield is important in a role over. I was worried about tweaking the front of the frame or roof supports but I doubt that will be a problem. I specifficaly stated at the beginning that I do not do any serious off camber and the next trip is going to be light trails anyway. two of the guys comming to the ride will be in stock trucks. anybody in my area have enough Thick wall carbon steel tube to just build the hoop and a brace for it. I have the bender and I can weld so all I need is the steel and some time. to everyone that was trying to be helpfull, Thank you.:cheers: To those of you that just want to argue hasta (imagine you are the horse)
