I have one of those Dana turdy ARBs that I bought all set up second hand. After a couple of runs I pulled the cover. 2 of the bolts were finger tight, the rest had those clips still on them. They won't move now though, I tacked all the bolts to the case.
I have only heard of minor things wearing out in a ARB. Those gears COULD have possible been a wrong match. Just be glad the whole ARB didnt frag! A guy in my old club had an ARB in his 9" and it glitched at 70 mph and blew the whole axle apart. So look on the bright side! You can still drive it...sorta! :laugh3:
I have not seen any specifications on their site???
Anyway,I seem to recall that some of their carriers used three spider gears. This would mean that they cant use a solid pin but three "half" pins joined in the center block at 120* and this would be a weak link!
Old generation 8.8 ARB's had one cross shaft, 2 side gears and two spiders.
New generation 8.8 ARB's, and I believe 8.25's have 2 side gears, and 3 spiders. One cross-shaft goes all the way through the case (7/8" diameter). The other cross shaft is a half shaft, with the inner half running on a hardened steel "saddle" that rides on the full length cross shaft.
The new generation are about 150% stronger than the old, due to the extra spider, and the redesigned case.
