I've had my current XJ for 3 months now. I've owned 7 XJ's, 2 ZJ's, a TJ and a YJ, but I think I'm gonna keep this one for good. It's an '01, bought it completely stock, and so far I'm sticking to the build it slow, build it right, build it once mentality. Seems to be working ok
First jeep I had for 2 years until november when a drunk lady failed to yield on a 2 lane highway. Bought a 95 for $600 in december drove it maybe 10 times and sold it in march when I decided it wasn't worth fixing. Bought my current 97 in january and have already dropped about $2000 into it for preventative maintenance and armor. Got a little carried away with the JCR stuff!
I've had mine for about a year now. Its been my DD from day one. I got a pre-purchase inspection from Carl-burger Dodge in La mesa, and everything they've said was good, has been good, and everything they said would fail, has, and has been swapped out (radiator/thermostat/hoses/fluids/cap/rotor,brakes, etc)
So basically just all 17 year old stuff.
When I first got it:
After:
removing pinstripes,
painting trim,
painting body,
removing stock racks and adding thule's,
logan's metal winch bumper,
1.5" lift,
yakima load box,
camping lab awning,
removing old tint,
etc.
A grand total of five full days and as it was a upgrade from my ole PT Cruiser I am just ecstatic. I can't wait to get back in June after annual training and start playing with it
Bought my 98 in November of 97, jasper engine in 2008 or so, water pump, rad, belts, brakes, shocks, everything else is original, right around 400,000+ miles.
I'll have had mine for 7 years end at the end of June. Bought with just under 54k and has recently topped 138k.
Dad is getting ready to scrap his 280k '90, that was bought in '97 with around 100k on it and last fall my little sister scrapped her 200+k '92 that she bought in '01 with around 150k on it.
