How long does it take for stupid pills to wear off???

It has been a really strange day up here. I think the water supply has been compromised.

If we never met, I work on rail-road cars:

I kicked the day off with a "person of responsibility" inspecting cars on what is effectively a "live" track...That's a bad thing! He is up to speed now.

Around 09:00 my trainee tells me he can't read or generate paperwork if he is in the sun....Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh my! What will he do when it gets hot outside?

One of our temps gouged himself pretty bad with a grinder. Nice fella, hope he studied for the drug test.

I have seen pictures on the interweb and said ha-ha: Today...for the first time ever...in real life...I saw a lady pulling out of a gas station with the nozzle still in her car, hose trailing behind.

On my way home, the highway narrows, the right lane becomes an exit. I expect to have people make last second corrections. I didn't expect to see a minivan pull out, and then weave back into the exit lane...orange cone trapped under the back bumper...WTF?!?!? Should I be looking for a flagger?!?!?

I don't want to discuss my foible for the day, it is that embarrasing. If the coming day turns out better, I just might share...

LOL Mike!

From the title...... I thought maybe you were still "stiff in the pants" from the little blue pill....... :D Thought you were calling the pills "stupid", not "stupid pills"..... :laugh2:

WOW I feel ya been there many times when I used to make the drive to the tech center and back for work I think everyone goes into dumbs!$t mode between the hours of 3pm and 6pm on the road

Nice.

Trouble is, I see goofy stuff like that every damn day out here, when I get on the road (which is part of the reason I now work from home. I react badly to incompetence, stupidity, and incivility. Allergic - I tend to break out in fits of violence...)

I don't know if it's something in that liquid fish fornicate in that everyone drinks, or if they just breed them stupid out here, or what - but I'm tired of it. At least when I get into the rest of the country, the incidents tend more toward "uncommon" than "commonplace"...

LOL I'm not a kiss-n-tell kinda guy. :twak:

We had a tool box meeting this morning. Normally we have them once a week, but if there is an injury we have one the next morning.
The new guy came back with some stitches, and a gimp.
We spent considerable time reviewing lock-out protocall.
I'm still not sure what I'm going to do about my trainee.
I kept the highway driving to a minimum today.

But there's more...

I happened to be in Western after work, asking about tank skids. They said: "Check back to see if we have processed any that day."
I said: "What about the one you just brought in?"
They said: "Go ahead and look"

90 seconds later I was back in the office telling them I want the metal skid, and the back axle: "How much extra to pull the axle?" (I don't want the axle leaving the drain shop!) They look at each other, give me a price, take some info.

The next day they call me to come pick up my stuff. Since we left work late, I took my co-worker to the yard before dropping him off at home. I explained that I don't "need" this axle, but I can "have" this axle for about as cheap as you can find them. I pay for the axle, drive back in the drain shop, get the axle nestled just right in the bed. I point to the 11.xx inch brake drums and explain that I'm getting bigger brakes. I pull out of there feelin' like a felon...

When I get time, I start examining my new prize:
"3.07 gears! In an auto? Somebody must have swapped this in."

"These shock mounts are different, but I like them. How am I gonna mount these?"

I glance from the bed of the truck to the back of the Jeep...truck...Jeep...truck...Jeep:
"Passenger side drop??!?!?!?!?" :twak:
"Six lugs??!?!?!?!" :twak:

I guess I'm lucky I made it home last night. I called the yard this morning and explained that I grabbed the wrong D-44. They held the axle for me, laughed along with me as I explained my silliness.

Western Auto Salvage did me righteous...TWICE! I think I better keep this axle.

Ok, so I get that you left the first time with what sounds like an early FSJ rear D44....... was it under an XJ? Or did you actually somehow take a FSJ axle the first time and were able to go back and get the XJ D44 you originally bought?

I'm lost! :looney:

Probably so! I did some engine work on a '71 waggy that (I think) had axles like this.

When I saw the XJ, it was already closing time. When they gave me a price that included the yard pulling the part, they declined any payment forward. I spent the night, and most of the next day wondering if the axle would be sold to someone else

When I got back the next day, the counter guy told me it was "by the gate." When I walked out, I saw an 8.8, a D-44, and some front axle next to the D-44. When we loaded the axle, I told my buddy that I wanted the long end in first so I could nest the tool box over it. After it was in, I put my finger next to the discard diameter cast in the drum, mere inches from the six lug pattern.

Like I said: Lucky I made it home that night.

Western has an "exchange only" policy for 30 days. When my epiphany came, I had to wonder just how badly I had hosed myself. I wasn't in the market for a more common axle.

The counter guy took care of me. He knew the axle I wanted was an XJ, D-44. I think he knows some people ask much higher prices than what the yard sells them for.

I give the staff two thumbs, way, way up!

LOL - Jeezus! Apparently it takes days for stupid pills to wear off...... I still didn't get an answer to my question....

Did ya end up getting the friggin' XJ D44 then???

:D

Y E S!

Better? LOL:dunno:

LOL - yeah, finally! :D

Ya can't show me a pic of a D44 housing and nothing else...... all D44 housings look the same. :twak:

I need to hit western more often damn! so how much did you get it for?

I think it was $125 before tax, $25 of that was to have them pull the axle. Now I have to go back and see how many miles on the odometer. LOL The donor didn't look or sound too bad. A guy came out to where it sat and drove it back to the drain shop.

It's kind of a hobby for me to walk through and see what's there. Unlike some people, I can't buy the whole heep, sell parts, and crush the rest.

I can tell you I've seen a few '87s missing back axles this year. The yards I visit are crushing cars pretty fast since scrap prices are up. I'd say this is a really good time for treasure hunting.

Bastards..... Who the hell does that and sleeps well at night? :dunno:

:D

You ain't kidding about the surge in crushing...... when steel hit $250 a ton, All Recycling where I scrap mine was PACKED and had 'em stacked 4-5 stories high all over the yard..... and there were a lot of old farm trucks, construction equipment being brought in too....... it was crazy the amount of cars they had pile up over a week's time. Steel was $190 - $205 last week.

I helped a bud in Aurora strip a sploder a few weeks ago: He took the engine, axles, ECU W/wiring, asstd odds and ends, called the wrecker.

They drove to his house, took the carcass with no title and gave him $150.

I'm seeing about a three week roll-over at pull-n-save in the Ford section. That's a lot of cars.
