How does this work ?

How can they prove that the person was texting ? Maybe he/she was going through their phone book to make a phone call and were using a hands free device ?

Apparently you have not a clue how the system works, they can tell down to the second what that phone was doing every time you hit send. All our jeeps are hands free bluetooth and there are times I have wanted to stop and slap some of these drivers that are talking on the cell when the light turns green and they are sitting there talking. Maybe that JCR bumper I want is a bad idea.

i have a pioneer radio that i have linked to my phone via bluetooth, but i do sometimes text while driving. I'm just curious if they can go through your phone to check or not ?

Yes, they can also remotely dump the contents [unofficially], it's a fairly easy process from the service control point. They can also turn on your GPS without you knowing too.

I don't know about anyone else but I have ATT. I can go online to check my bill and minutes usage. On there I can actually check all the phones on my plan and see exactly what time and what number text messages are sent.

'Not quiet accurate. You actually can't shut it off. The settings are "Location On" and "E911 Only". The only way to shut off tracking is to pull the battery out of the phone.

:jester:just something for the tin foil hat crowd!

Yup, we were working on a method to also turn them on remotely if the battery was in them, kind of like a wake on lan. The goal was to get them half on so they did not look 'on'. The only sure way is to remove the battery. To totally clear the phone you need to do a master reset which varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.

They can't mine,
Any way, don't we already have a law against reckless driving?
Seems all of the laws anymore are already covered by a law in one way or another.
The guberment just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Most anything you can screw up driving a car is covered by "reckless driving".

One of my math teachers had a cell phone that was over 10 years old, the only reason that it still worked was because when he signed his contract way back when it had a clause about never needing a different model phone as long as you kept renewing his contract early.

Makes me think that people like this are costing some of the cell phone companies a lot of money because they are still supporting analog cell phones.

He said he never wanted a new phone because that one met all his needs. It didn't have GPS....

Good! Make it a national law for all I care. I can't count the number of assholes who I have seen texting and nearly caused me or someone else to have a wreck. This actually happened again last week. The bitch was swerving all over the road and nearly side-swiped me. I could visibly see her texting. She even had the nerve to continue doing it after this happened, speeding up to 80-90mph and swerving all over the place. I'm getting a Rigidco bumper specifically for these kind of people...

Of course. Why don't you ban every other thing that's distracting as well. Such as signs, buildings, people, other cars, radios, vanity mirrors, the woman next you, the guy picking his nose behind you, and how about the woman you see putting her make up on while driving down the road.

If you really NEED to text someone PULL OFF THE ROAD .I used to enjoy riding my motorcycle but after being run off the road by people on cell phones I Finally sold my bike . When driving PAY ATTENTION to the road . everything else really can wait . Please do not be a moron the life you save may be your own!!!

But with your attitude, you're likely to be the guy to run someone else off the road. Your examples (signs, guy behind you, etc) are external, you have don't control over them. Texting is you choosing to distract yourself by looking at something inside your vehicle, paying attention to typing something on your keypad. Everything you listed is a matter of self control. Who cares if the guy behind you is picking his nose? Don't try to read every sign you see.

I'm not going to fight over it, I admitted to occasionally texting while driving. I didn't say I drove with my head up my ass.
