Does someone know how to change the bearing in the rear axle. We have a 88 Jeep Cherokee,
IS it as easy as using as a slide hammer and pop it out and then putting it back in, or is there some other way of doing it?

If anyone has done this can you let me know which is the best / easist way..( the mechanic said he could do it for 450 with parts)..
I would like to do it cheaper if i can..

Thanks

Are you talking about the bearings on the axle shafts, the bearings on the carrier, or the pinion bearings? Rear axle bearings is kinda vague. Just off hand, the axle shaft bearings will need to be cut off with a die grinder and the new ones pressed on. My local axle place charged $100 including the parts. The carrier bearings will need to be pressed off and the new ones pressed on taking into account which sides had which shims. If you popped out your carrier, I shouldn't think it would be that much. The pinion bearings I have no experience with, so someone else will have to chime in.
