we're planning a trip to manhattan next month, and i pondering over decent places to stay at... any suggestions for hotels located in manhattan that are within 150-$200, i know this is an expensive town, but it seems you get what ya pay for over there.

I like the Embassy Suites Battery Park.

Two blocks from the subway, next door to the World Trade Center, and walking distance to Battery Park where you catch the ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

It will probably be more than $200, but keep in mind that the price INCLUDES cooked to order breakfast for everyone each morning.

If you were to pay for a family of 4 to eat breakfast at a Manhattan hotel, you would probably be about $50 anyway.

If cost really is an issue, stay in New Jersey near Liberty State Park, and take the ferry to Battery Park each morning, and use the metro to tour around. If you go that route, be sure not to miss the last ferry back to NJ at night...then you are screwed.

Hope this helps.

what area of the city would you like to stay in? downtown (battery to about 34 th street or so) midtown (34 to about 70) or so, uptown (70-110 - north of 110 is Harlem). east side (5th ave is east/west divider). are you coming in on business or pleasure? depending on the sights you want to see, I can give you a few places to check out.

we're going coming over for pleasure, since we've never been to NY before... we'd like to stay somewhere in midmanhattan, but basically anywhere downtown will do where we can walk to most sites will do.

thanks

I travel to NY about once a month on business.

It may be a stretch to find a decent spot in Midtown for the money that you are looking to spend. You may want to check out the Roosevelt, though, as it sometimes has weekend specials.

There is a new hotel just off the G.W Bridge, abutting Chinatown and the East Village called the Hotel on Rivington. It is not quite complete, but is open for business. It is kind of a funky, younger crowd kind of hotel, and if I recall correctly runs about $200 or so a night. The entrance to the hotel looks like a cave. http://www.hotelonrivington.com/

Have fun in NY.
