I just got done installing an AEM air filter on my Jeep, my ? is can I drive it with the 2 little hoses that were conected to the stock air box plugged or do i need to have them connected to the intake? One of the hoses goes to the valve cover and the other goes behind the engine and to a canister on the passenger side of the engine compartment.

Legally you need to have them connected. The one to the valve cover helps suck polution from the engine and helps clear blowby and corrosive fumes from the crankcase. The other goes to the fuel vapor canister and is used to suck the fuel vapors caught in the canister due to fuel tank expansion and the like. Bottom line is that it will run without them but they actually perform a useful purpose so I say hook them up.

Im gonna hook em up but i just wanted to make sure i can run it till i get the rest of the parts.

Well I cot off the round part that comes out of the stock air bow anfd used that to connect the fuel vapor hose and once I get the extra change im gonna get the hose bugs like ranger used for the oil one. I should have pics tomorow. Also this whole progegt so far with everything incuded costed me a whopping $6.48.

I dont know, i got it out of a free box after a yard sale was over.

my question is without a heat shield, wouldnt this be detracting horsepower? All you're doing now is sucking all the hot engine air instead of getting some cooler air that the stock airbox would receive. I still feel that just putting a K&N filter in the stock box would probably be the best thing you can do. Unless i see before and after dyno results, i will remain skeptical.

it feels like i got a little more power than the stock box with the k&n. and i am gonna build a heat shield like dr dyno. and put 1" spacers in the rear of my hood to cool down under hood temps.
