A friend told me he's sellin his 70' Scout and he'd break me a deal on the old Warn winch, but it still works. I told him what the hell I'll buy it, now that I have it I feel bad for what I paid which included 20ch Cobra CB $40.
Warn 8274:guitar: with remote.

Now I need to build a bumper. Any suggestions?

CB going to be mounted in OHC (thanks Spudly)

Little brother trying to score some hydraulic winches from up-armored Humvee's that are being replaced. After hours of searching I found out they're using Mile Marker 10,500#.
I told him to try to get two! $250 for adapter kit and the price of new cable still killer deal

Sorry just really exited and wife doesn't understand how big this all is.

The 8274 is one big f'er. Someone build a bumper for one on here. Search should pull it up.

Why would you want a hydraulic winch? Dont do it.

Hydraulic is more efficient under heavy load, can be run in any condition(underwater) as long as engine is running. No overheating issues, can be run all day long if need be.
Don't have to worry about alt./batt. setup
oh yeah, if it's free it's for me

Why wouldn't you go hydraulic if you could?

the 8274 is a big winch but i have never had any issues with the 3 i have owned
as far as mounting on an xj it all depends what type of bumper you want i did a tube one for mine and have had no overheating issues with it at all.

here the only front view pic i had off hand

Nice tube work.
I think the bumper is going to be fairly rudimentary, no bender....yet, someday.
All the reviews about this winch have all been extremely positive.
I also found Bellavista's write-up on rebuilding and seems really simple, I really like uncomplicated things. Like my RENIX lol.

The 8274's are the best winches out there. They take a little bit to mount up, but it will never let you down and out pull just about any other winch out there, even at 40 years old. Did I mention they're fast? That's the only winch I've ever owned (I've owned two). Here's mine mounted up on my old rig that I sold last November :( :

Yeah the 60 someodd ft/m unloaded sounded pretty sweet.
74ft/m on the new motors, also doublers...wow only $1500 (sarcasm)
This one may be 40 years old.

Date code: F07

Seeing it mounted up, Damn it's BIG
Looks smaller on the ground.
