anyone have a good source on some 6" HID lights? the ones with the internal ballasts.... i cant seem to find em for less than $400 each, and every time i get close to saving up that much money i spend it on something else :dunno:

thanks

Why do you need that much light? Seems like 3 or 4 100 watt KC would be much more cost effective?

OH YEE of little light! Obviously you have never experienced the power of HID. One HID will do the work of those four 100 watt lights.

Try these people;

Yep, never had HID's.

I was just thinking of my experience offroad. I have two fog lights and two $20 walmart off road lights....never needed more? I guess if I wanted to go faster I would need more, but I wheel pretty slow.

Next time we run into eachother, remember to show me the difference.

most of my offroading is out in the sand dunes at high speeds so i need to be able to see pretty far out ahead of me. ive got one HID flood on the roof now but im working on a 4 light rack for the top of the jeep, and i'd like another 2 or 3 spots on the front bumper. i like the HIDs because they turn night into day, you can see plenty far and can avoid obstacles before you get too close to do anything about em.

thx for the link bubba

It's true, HID is the way to go. The Honda Baja team has a dual HID setup on their race bikes. When I'm out testing with them, you can see the rider for miles away. Only problem with HID on a bike/quad, is side glare.

How about buying some Harbor freight off road lights and getting an HID conversion kit for around $300 for two lights. Nobody's gonna steal your harbor freight specials. The HID conversion kit can be found on e-bay. Another option is cheap light housings with Sylvania silverstar bulbs. This is what I am using and they're nearly as bright as HID. Total investment for two lights and bulbs= $56.

I'm a bit of a general light nut. I see HID as a huge benefit considering reduced draw, bulb life, output, etc. I'm running the original Sylvania 6054 DOT legal kit and their 1010 HID fog lights. Neither are being made any more. The 1010 are nice at 5400k :D, while the 6054 are not worth it at 4100k combined with several design issues :thumbdn:.

As for off-road lights I recently added a pair of Lightforce 240 HID's to the mix. These are simply amazing :sunshine:.

I agree that having internal ballasts is a huge plus. That was a large part of why I went Lightforce. I checked Hella 4000 HID's as well as several others. The Hella's external ballasts had very short leads which would have required mounting them to the rack. While not a show stopper, I'd go for internal if you have the choice.

Mike,
I have LED bars that put out Nice light and more useable I think. More flat.
A 12" bar = one 7" 55w HID
and a 12" is 130$
Or do a 20" at 230$ and you will easily have more then 2 7" HIDs. As well as lower profile. You do know that 4 7" lights do create drag... :-)

cal is post bombing me from 2007 Rob lol. I've got 6 hella 4000s now. that's one hell of a price on LED bars though.

do you have the 12" bars in stock? I'd like to come check one out some time.

Awww...

I drop ship them from Washington. Pretty far drive lol...

You can check out the 20" I have mounted on my jeep. They are nicer then rigid I think. Buddy has their 20" and mine clearly has more light output and usable light. He got the spot and he is lucky to get a 10'x10' spot on the ground at about 40 ft out. Might has about 90% of the same intensity of output for about a 20x20 and then flood output for about a 100x25ft at 40ft out... Not to mention mine has a nicer lock down on the sides with a set screw and a pinch bolt.
