Hi new XJ owner.

first why did you just ask the guys what they think? You didn't ask the gals but I'm going to give you my 2 cents.

My experience has been that it IS the upper control arms. You changed the geometry dynamics with the lift kit which put additional leverage on the bushings. Simple physics. At about 140,000 miles they usually start to wear. Whats the mileage on yours? That could be a problem for you if you have that high of miles.

To bad i'm not closer or I'd gladly come help!

Well the guys term was used as a general term but thats awsome you are into this stuff. I personal dont know very many gals who are. Well it sure sounds like you know what your talken about, useing big words that I can't speell ;-) let a lone pernounce. I have 149000 on the jeep. that was going to be my next step would be to replace the upper control arm bushing. Thanks for your help!
 
Sorry! I re-read my post and I did sound quite snotty. I know guys was just a generic term. I just had a hard day at the gym yesterday with all the "Meatheads" and how they view women. Like we are just empty shells. (wish they had more brains and less muscle)

Ha ha about me using big words and you pretending not to know how to say them! I know how some machanics downplay how smart the really are. My dad was that way. But i'll tell you what, there is nothing hotter than a guy who can talk technical and knows how to use his tools.
 
While I tend to agree that lifting it changes the way stress is applied to the suspension, geometry dynamics may not be the right term... On short arms (i.e. without changing the body end mount points or significantly changing the wheelbase) the control arm angle is going to be higher, which will direct more of the force through the control arms and bushings instead of the springs/shocks, like you said. I learned this the tough way when I broke a rusted axle LCA bracket in half on a dirt road right after lifting my XJ.

Thats ok. Sound's like the guys from the show Jersey Shore. I hate that show. But I could use a little more brains and some muscle! I'm not a huge fan of working out. I would like to just for the muscle. But in High Shcool I ran track and some devloped Tenednitius(?) in my right shoulder. It got so bad to the point I could not do one push up. The bad thing is I never got any treatment for it. but now its ok I just need to watch my self and not over work it. Anyway. But I tell you what theres not alot women who find machanics atrative at all it kind of a turn on when you find one that does. Thats really COOL!
 
dude that sucks about your shoulder. there are ways to work it out however. you have to start small and work out the musles around the one that hurts the most. start with no weight at all just isometrics. then add small weights like 2 pounds. get the muscles around the hurt one stronger to support it and then the hurt one will start getting stronger as well. The key is not to over do and be patient. It can take a really long time. So does it hurt your shoulder when you work? you can't be too weak if you work on cars. sometimes things get tough. I've had to modify tools adding longer handles, etc.when I was younger my dad would laugh at some of the inventions i made to make make it eaisier for myself. but they worked. So you've never met a girl thats into mechanics huh? that is surprizing. It's fun to build an engine with someone and flirt and "play" in a gargage. getting the torque just so. it is a turn on that is for sure.

i was at breakfast with my friend and this guy was in the parking lot his car wouldn't start. I told him he could borrow my jumper cables. he couldn't get his hood open and so once i opened it for him he didn't know how to use jumper cables. I was sooo bugged! So I did it for him. He was driving a expensive car and wearing expensive clothes and was such a dumb @#$.
girls don't like helpless men!

Thanks for the work out tips. I'm just really nervous that if I do start that I will start messing it up again. But true i have been teching for awhile and it hasent bothered me. Most of the pain came from sports. I think it would be fun to build something with some one in a gargage, and get "dirty"! That would be a lot of fun!

Being a computer engineer has its benefits... :spin1:

I spent my first date with my last girlfriend replacing the gas tank on my XJ. Took a bit longer than either of us expected...
