I,ve got a 98 XJ with a 3.5" in rubicon lift. My qustion is my front axle in reverse rocks back and forth when you just let off the brakes and then quickly apply the brakes. I know for sure all the control arms bolts are tight. Is something I need to live with or I'm thinking of replacing the upper control arms. What do you guys think?

Who did the install? Perhaps there will be warranty on the job? I would assume that you had a professional shop do this for ya? I wouldnt let just anybody work on my stuff. Leave it to the skilled Technicians!:hang:

Reply: Well I did the install my self. Not trying to up you, but I've been a tech for 5 yrs and a AS degree in Automotive Tech. I know what I'm doing. But any way. I do have all my bolts and nuts torqued to spec and again retorqued after 150 miles. So i know everything is good and tight. And my upper control arm bushings dont look or seem worn out altough 150k on it, it could use new bushings. The only thing I find odd is it didnt do that before.

Yea i have the same issue i have the same lift kit too but i installed it last year. It only recently started doing that after i put about an extra 1.75" up in front to even it out. It also only does it on the right side... I've been just living with it.

Could the bushing sleeves themselves be wallowed out? How much play are we talking about here? Just a little thump, or a decent amount of movement?

Bottom line, is it comes down to your control arms. Any combination of those 4 arms could be causing it. Best bet would be to replace all 4 bushings/sleeves/hardware, but I know that sounds a lot easier than it is.

Hey Dradack, where in Utah are you located? I am in St. George! Is that your XJ in the picture? Looks like one of mine, except mine has different wheels and mine is forrest green.

Yes I did! That was awesome! I ran the Maze the first day and Milts Mile the second day. I ran with my Wrangler instead of the XJ. Does your friend have a Jeep?

Reply: Well the lower arms are brand new. Came with the lift. The uppers are stock with a 150k. its got a good thump. But only in reverse, taping the brakes.

No my friend does not have a jeep but he did do the same courses the same day as you. If memory serves you he had this lumpy old beat up chevy blazer that was black with lots of dents. and had a flag coming out of the hood.

There was a couple of Blazers there. Both were real beat up. One of them looked like it belonged in the wrecking yard but went remarkably well. The wheelbase is an asset for them. I dont know how it was equipped but it could go places the Wrangler would have flopped over on. (The XJ has more wheelbase than the Wrangler, you'll like that) That Blazer is too wide though.
Made me wish I would have had my buggy. I would have out wheeled him for sure.

It seems that he hung out with Bronco guys?

I was there to witness the Blazer. That old cripple guy with the crutches drove it like he stole it!

HA HA I'll have to tell him that. I work with him. Are you on the Rockymountian extream form? He is.

Oh, cripple guy wasn't the owner, it was the grumpy old dude that kept bitching at every stop.

Also, that noise you're hearing is probably your CV joints. My Sentra started doing that after my x-wife and her girlfriend bumped uglies in it. I'm glad she's gone though.

Is this the Blazer that your coworker owns? The dude is crazy. The older crippled guy did some driving too. I think I know why he's crippled!
