i went to aamco and they gave me some sensor error codes from the "free diagnostic" service. basically they told me theyd charge me 90 dollars to tell me whats really wrong ..heh free my butt...... well they are p1698(no transmission ccd message) and p0700 (transmission fault present). any suggestions on where to start would be greatly appreciated. i have pretty good mechanical skills but my troubleshooting skills are a little rusty. thanks

What does the tranny fluid look/smell like? I'd start by checking that. From what I can find, the P1698 has to do with the torque converter clutch, and the P0700 is related to one or any of the following sensors: transmission control module, throttle position sensor, transmission range sensor, and/or the transmission's solenoids. Does it work in all gears?

well first off the tranny fluid is shot so could that be the entire reason? and yes it works in all gears....um it makes a weird grinding noise around 45 mph at 1500 rpm or so but i was reading up on some other threads and believe that to be the tranny mount.

Ideally, you'd drop the pan and check for an abnormal amount (and size) of metal in the fluid. From what I've read, I don't really know if that could be the whole reason, but it would certainly contribute to the codes being thrown. I'm not very knowledgeable about transmissions, to be honest; I just happen to be at work, and I'm a librarian, so I have access to some good stuff. What I read also mentioned to check the shift linkage.

well thankfully i read a lot of other posts suggesting that i check fuses wiggle wires check for proper connect and guess what. i popped some fuses put them back in plugged and unplugged some things and well the lights off so fingers crossed it stays that way. !! :)
