Help me brainstorm

My brother lives in Salt Lake with his vegitarian girlfriend, I live in Lexington, Ky.

His birthday is comig up, and I thought nothing sounded better than sending him like 50 lbs of meat since he rarely gets to eat it anymore.

I can't figure out how I would ship this though? Is there a way to ship stuff while keeping it refridgerated at the same time?

I know I could send him a bunch of Omaha Steaks, but I'm looking to do some assorted stuff; ribs, steaks, etc.

If anyone has any suggestions, choice cuts of meat, shipping ideas, etc. I would be thankful.

If we weren't supposed to eat meat, then why does it taste so good? :D

Here is an option:
Big Valley Buffalo

Go to "Specials" and check out their Mini-Combo. A pretty good sampler of meat. Definitely pricy but if this is what you are looking to do, it's gonna cost you no matter what.

Option 2: Find one of us who lives in the area, send them money to get steaks locally, have them put it in an inexpensive styrofoam cooler, throw a bow on it along with a birthday card and have them deliver it to their door. Might be a small fee to cover gas, etc..

Of course you'd have to find a trustworthy individual in the area and I don't know if that's possible. :D

You can Overnight Fed-Ex meat as long as it's packaged/frozen properly. You'd have to contact Fed-Ex to find the exact requirements.

Vegetables are what food eats. If you buy it through Omaha or someplace similar, they pack it in FedEx styro containers with dry ice. I have never seen these (the styro) for sale at a FedEx store or Mailboxes, etc, but you never know. I would go for the large supply houses than ship my own, that way, if anything happens in regards to food handling (thawing, late shipment, damaged packaging) it is on the shipper, not you. Food poisoning isn't anything to screw around with. Omaha has a great sampler or check with Cabela's, too. They have a good selection. Just my .02.

Send him a live goat and let him turn it into meat, himself. Ought to impress his lady and raise his status in the household.

Greg, just send him some more rocks to climb.
Ask Andy, that state is freakin chock-full o' rock. Don't you think the shipping would be a bit high anyway.....my business is in rope. :dunno:

I'm definately going to visit him soon to go climbing, maybe wheeling if the Jeep is working properly.

Oh, and thanks guys, I'll have to check out Omaha more closely.

LOL! If only you knew her.

I can just hear her:
"You are not even going to slaughter that goat in this household..."

I´m a hunter and my wife is a very liberal school teacher, we don´t see eye to eye, but we´ve agreed to disagree. Animal hides hanging from her clothes line, Deer heads on her walls. Once forgot a big pot of Deer innards for the dogs, on the stove, stuff really smells strong, when it´s seriously well done. :flamemad:
The Daniel Boone routine, usually doesn´t go over big with vegetarians. :farmer:

if you can get live lobsters from maine shipped across the country you can get meat sent out west. i say get him the best rack of ribs east of the mississippi and be done with it. remember quality not quantity.

Have anything specific in mind you know of or something? Ribs do sound really good. If I had the money, I would send him a whole carcass...

Cabelas sporting goods sell selections of various meats, smoked, dryed, etc, ready to go.. as does LL Bean...

I´ve sent some Kosher Deli baskets to friends (in the Hospital), call a local (Salt Lake Jewish Deli, if there is such a thing) ask them about putting together a basket and delivery.

Just remember - today's girlfriend may end up as tomorrow's sister-in-law.

You'd better hope she has a sense of humour or the "well he doesn't respect me" card may come out if you ever go for a visit...

other than that - check the yellow pages for local deli's. Call them and have them cut if fresh that morning. Same dealio on the delivery - call a local delivery company and have them stop by the deli, pick up the gear and deliver it to your bro.

I do this all the time for folks I do business with. Course I'm usually sending booze...party1:

Ask to speak with the deli manager and explain your goal - fresh meat for your bro to enjoy on the barbie (leave out the veggie GF part). If one won't help, find another deli.
