New here and to xj,s but i have always wanted one, just picked up a 2000 with a bad knock, i have not went fishing for skirt pieces yet(witch i learned about while researching here) i have learned much i did not know already about the 2000 xj and will be selling my scoot to build this up.

what i have learned so far
1. stock heads are sht
2.#3 injector issues
3. piston skirt ( prob what i am looking at)
4.i may not be happy with the stock axels
5.flywheel issue
that is about it so far most of this was news to me as i was unaware of the changes made at the ending years of the xj, i am surprised at this to why change a good thing.

Well i will be digging around on here learning all i can and will post some pics and prob start a build thread when i get going, it will be slow as i will be selling my scoot to build this the way i want it.

Feell free to lend any advice you may have on this model as i am sure i can use it.I registered here b/c i have been getting a lot of good reading in the forums about my xj and found my self here more than anywhere else.

other jeeps i have owned
1 zj
1 cj8
i miss them both

first make sure you knock is not your torque converter or flywheel

then check for milky oil...chances are someone cracked the head and ran antifreeze through the oil pump and killed it, which is probably the source of your knock...fwiw, an xj with a knock usually means its time for a motor swap. the axles will be okay depending on how big you are building it. however it does have a low pinion dana 30...but the hp ones are easy to come by. good luck sir

I would love to find out it is the fly wheel, and thanks for the info i guess the plan of attack will be , first inspect the flywheel, and then drop the pan, after that remove valve cover followed by the head. if anyone has advice on trouble shooting this i am all ears.
