i bought a paceseter header for my 92 4.0l because it's all i could afford right now and my manifold was cracked bad!! the problem is that this header has a port for egr, and my xj has no egr. so i need to find a plug that fits. i went to home depot, lowes, and 3 auto parts stores and nobody can help me. does anyone know what i can use to plug the hole? thanks for your help.

That's easy. Any muffler shop should have something, or at the very least, be able to just weld over top of it. Probably like a $20 quicky. Open up the yellow pages and make some calls.

let me tell you about the pacesetter. looks great out of the box. comes in 3 pieces: header, downpipe, and cat connector. come to find out, the back exhaust port(next to the firewall) was off. i mean WAY off. when bolted up to the head, you could see about 1/4 of the exhaust port in the head. i don't know how the heck they managed that, but the pipe was welded to the flange in the wrong spot. unfortunately i didn't take any pics. well i was kinda in a bind and had to get that header on there so i cut the flange and "persuaded" the rear pipe into place. other than that it is a great header. flows really well. needed a little persuation with the magic stick(big prybar) in order to not rub the bellhousing and trans crossmember. but that was no big deal. now it's on there, no leaks, and sounds and feels great. for the price ($217 after tax-summit) i'd buy one again.

Not to steal the thread, but since we're talking about budget headers: I bought one of the AutoPN headers for $128 shipped, installed like a dream on my 98 xj, and I've never done anything that involved under the hood. Gave a little deeper tone than stock, a little more torque, and it runs perfect with my flowmaster 40. No complaints at all!

seems to me that just welding the hole shut would defeat the purpose of have a smooth flowing header, now you have a nice divot for the gas to flow into/around, doesn't seem all that good.
