Header Gasket Question

I am running a 4.7L stoker I built about 10 years ago. It has a single outlet Clifford Header. It uses the standard three hole header gasket going to the exhaust system. The gaskets only seem to last about 6-9 months before falling appart.

Does anybody make a better gasket? I've been running a Holley brand. I think that the vibrations simply cause the gasket for break appart. I have thought about adding a flex piece right behind the header but don't want to have to deal with it right now.

I used to have them stamped out of heavy sheet copper - anneal them to dead soft when removed (or before first installation,) and use RTV Copper to help the seal.

Used these on some heavy fire-breathing engines without complaint - and they can be reused as long as the copper holds out. Use 0.090"-0.120" copper, should last you a couple of whiles.

Good idea. I will cut out a gasket and aneal it. I think I have the copper in my stash.

Yeah - used to have exhaust gaskets stamped from copper all the time! The only real headache was finding stock thick enough (I wanted to get with at least 0.120" stock - that would give me enough room to file it down once or twice to flatten the surface, if it needed it.)
