Head unit help.

Alrighty guys, need opinions. I installed a Dual head unit from Walmart about 2 weeks ago and some Infinity speakers last week. I really didn't like the quality of the radio but I went ahead and put it in anyway.

I soldered and shrink wraped all the wires and made sure there was no exposed connections to short something out. Fast forward to tonight and I turn my Jeep off for 5 minutes, turned it back on and the radio won't come back on. The power button lit up, but thats it. Nothing works. :gonnablow I then proceeded to pull it out and it was really hot for some reason. I was running heat but it was hot to the point where you almost couldn't touch it. Then I let it cool down, checked all the connections, plugged it back in, and not even the power light comes on now, absolutely nothing works.

So I've come to the conclusion that the radio is pure JUNK and I'm going back to Wally World tomorrow to raise hell and get my $100 back. :soapbox: Then probably gonna get the $150 JVC head unit they have as I've always have good luck with JVC.

Any input or opinions on Dual head units? I thought they were decent quality but apparently not.

If you look on cruthfeld.com, they have user reviews on radios. Dual seems to have some QC issues. I thought about buying it but decided to spend the extra money on something else. Got a Jensen HD 3620 radio. No more beatboxing for me.

DO NOT BUY CAR AUDIO FROM WALMART. Stay away from Best Buy too.

Onlinecarstereo.com . They have great prices and free shipping.

The retailer has little to do with the quality of the merchandise, aside from what they choose to carry. I picked up my CDA-117 from Best Buy. Does that make it inferior to a CDA-117 that I could have purchased from the website that you reference (no, I didn't pay full price)?

Do a bit of research on each model that you're looking to pick up and then find the best place to buy it based on your needs (get it quickly, price, customer service, etc.).

Dual = fail. as much as I dislike bestbuy, go there when they have their free install.
For what you can buy most places, pioneer is the way to. Alpine used to be good. but not as much anymore.

Alpine, Kenwood, and Pioneer are the 3 best... coming from somebody who builds cars.
I personally like Alpine, only cause I think they look the best (for most applications, until you get into the super high dollar systems, you won't notice a difference in sound quality between the higher-end head units... the interface is the biggest difference).

love my kenwood excelon kdc-x794. never though i could get as much power and clarity out of a stock headunit as this thing pushes.. i'm running 4 polk 6.5s and a polk 10" sub. and the interface is absolutely kick ass.
