Has anyone ordered/purchased a roof rack from this guy?

That seems steep for a custom rack that just clamps to the factory crossbars..

But, I'm a cheap!

It is a nice rack, 400 is still pretty steep and then for all the add ons. Id shop around and see if there is one with the mounts you want and compare. Plus his tube can be picked up at home depot. I would make it cheaper if I had a bender;)

Thanks guys, do you have anyone else local that you'd recommend as far as roofracks/body armor?
In the $400 range, you can pick up the more expensive Name brand unit locally..

I think "Re-rack" or "Rack attack" sells the Yakima load warrior, or Thule M.O.A.B. for well under that, Plus you can add "Extensions"

$400-$500 is enough to get almost any rack.. Have you looked into the "Oly4x4 top hat" ?

Dang I wished I would have waited my roof rack was $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and I hate the way it sit's on my roof rail's and bends my gutter's. I think that mine was around 750.00 with out light mounts or spare tire mount which is to heavy for my old ass to lift up there now.

Also that expanded floor looks super thin and weak. I would have opted for no floor by the looks of it. Not a bad looking rack though, but kinda steep.

+1 vote for the Olympic Top Hat.

Nice in theory...but their 'tech support' is nonexistent to determine that a product is defective. We had a brand new one come in when I was at Central that literally had the side pieces welded on at about 60 degrees instead of 90. Eric (the owner) pretty much tried to shrug me off and even had me call a former employee of his at another company "who is more familiar with the Cherokees" to verify that the fit wasn't correct. Fast forward one month to phone tag and promises of "oh yeah we'll send you a UPS call tag and compare it to another one..." This was within the last two years. I had given him the opportunity to make a sale again, with benefit of the doubt after similar experiences in the past. Some habits never die, they only smell that way.

Interesting. I guess I've never had to deal with their customer service. We've sold several and they've all fit very well, and at least two have saved the rigs for more damage in a flop.

Yeah, not saying they don't have a nice product...but nice products aren't always enough to offset the occasional need for contact. :)

I had a similar (yet more frustrating) experience with an exhaust manufacturer recently; not honoring the warranty they claimed. It was as if they changed the rules on the fly and it was different with every person we talked to. It's as if they think there aren't other companies out there for sales guys to choose from...

Cheap bender and $100 dollars in expanded metal and tubing and you can make your own in an afternoon if you have a welder. Gutter mounts are easy to make or just buy some from JCR.

No way I would spend $400 bucks for such a simple rack.
