Has anybody used Squaretrader.com or purchased big stuff from overseas?

Hi, I am about to purchase a kawasaki four wheeler from overseas. The guy that is selling uses squaretrade.com for his transactions. I want to be sure my money doesn't get stolen. He says with that company u can receive your goods first then hand over the money the company holds back for your approval. Sounds like the perfect deal so I know he doesn't get the money before i recieve the quad. Are there other ways to do this that are better???

Why buy it from overseas? Can't find one like it here?

I am kinda leary about squaretrade, they hold back until you aprove the transfer (i think it has to happen within a day or so of you getting posession) but that being said, what happens if you find out it was stolen or somthing months later.

I am getting a 05 brute force 750 for $2900. The guy had to move to greece and us spec four wheelers can not be register there and he wants what he owns on it to just make a little money before import taes eat him up.

Just FYI.

Ever notice used quads are not exactlly plentifull, at least in this area? The reason is they are bought in bulk from dealers and taken overseas. I spend enough time at a quad dealer, and 1 day all 7 or so of his used quads were gone, I asked where they went.

I would pass on this one.

Thanks for the comments guys. The quad was purchased in Texas by the same guy I am talking to. he moved to overseas for business. I have copies of the titles that my loan officer is researching also. Sqauretrade sounds like the way to go but I am looking into it alittle more before I go and get a loan for a bogus quad. Thanks again

Scam! I use to hear a lot about these "great deals" on atv's and people getting scammed. I'd suggest you stay away from this "great deal". Live with the statement, "if a deal is to good to be true, usally it is". Just my two pennies, buy I'd stay away from it!!

Hey for any one thinking of buying anything from overseas and using squaretrader...BE VERY CAREFUL...Most likely it’s a SCAM! The guys will tell you that he will contact squaretrader. Then you will receive an email from squaretrader (but its fake) it will look real. Then you fill your info on it and a couple hours later you will get a response telling you that the deal is set and to wire the money to the account indicated. The money will get withdrawn and you will never hear from this guy again....Do the research if it sounds to good to be true...most likely its NOT....If you have more questions reply to me and I will tell you more in detail...

It does happen. Let's say the guy was working in the US for a few years, picked it up while he was here, tried to bring it back to Greece, and was given the high hard one by Greek customs when he brought it back in. Quads aren't exactly huge in Europe, so he probably didn't do much in the way of research regarding bringing it in. Likely he was trying to get it in as personal effects so that there would be no import duties on it.

A friend of mine in Ireland's girlfriend had a problem getting her Alfa Romeo Spider imported from New York (where she bought it while a student in the US). The car was OK for import apart from the US-spec combination rear brake/indicator lights - which apparently used an entirely different wiring arrangement to the European-spec lights and is not an easy conversion. She was able to get a 180-day registration waiver to allow her time to perform the conversion, but that's Ireland. Each EU country has its own policies on what can and can't come in.

Either way, I'd look for one somewhere else in the US; this stinks of a scam. Assuming the guy's not a con artist, even though the quad is US-spec you may run into all sorts of problems trying to bring it back in.
