HARLAN August 21 and 22

Thanks Rob and Tess for coming out to help. Nice to see you all again and let the fams meet. You are fine folk!!!

We ruled out the pad noise (minimal)...turned out the bushings on my 4 month old RE control arms are shot! I'll be making a call on Monday, but I'm wheelin' either way. Appreciate you not running over me while I laid under the heep, Rob  I almost made a fool out of myself...I told ya I had a popping noise!!!

Eric

Great meeting the fam too. Just glad I had nothing going on today. The control arms have a Flex joint front and appeared to be regular bushing for the rear. I think he just needs some stronger bushing in the rear.

The whole front axle would rotate a degree or two on initial movement.

You should replace those with poly bushings if you can (at least on the axle side).

Like Rob said, it's a flex joint in the front, rubber bushing in the rear. I'm going to attempt to get a goodwill replacement on the arms from RE first. I've actually been tracking this noise for 2 months, so the bushings only lasted for 2 months and about 1,000 miles. Also been seriously thinking about some CA drop brackets which should reduce stress on the bushings and improve the ride to boot.

Just a FYI last time I bought them, best price was here..

Good Luck

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind for next time. RE is going to send me some new bushings from a different supplier. I hope these are better. Is there any trick to getting the bushings out and in?

Eric

poly bushings aren't bad rubber ones are a bitch. I use a bfh and a socket that fits just inside the sleeve the bushing fits into.

I split the old ones with a hack saw blade, took a large pry bar to pry em out. I used a large bench vise to press the new ones in ,with a little WD40 on the bushing to help push em in..

Hey Brian have the replaced the shitty bath house on the Putny side yet?

Have not been since last years crawl, but any bath house is good enough for me as long as I can get clean.

You thinking about going?

Not this time would like to but, Too much going on with the boys starting school Monday. Have to get some things straight and need a new ride for the wife. So my trips till I get somethings cought up will be URE or local stuff. I sent some emails to Harlan today and they said that by next July there should be rv sites and other added features. They also informed me of the change in fees.

If the size of the shower bothers you that much you can stand behind the hohauler and I can give you a golden shower.:D

Its not that. I will do cabins in the future when I go there.

See ya there, all ready to go

Question... Is this normal for everyone, to actually be prepared days in advance? I always feel like everything is coming together last minute. XJ is halfway apart, trailer is getting new axles and brakes at the trailer shop, and the Tahoe needs new brakes and wiring before I leave. So much left to do, always feels like it's always down to the wire!

At any rate, I will find a way to have my collective junk together to make the trip by next Thursday.

cabjeepster, do you want to convoy down there by any chance? Not in a real hurry to get down there, so it'd be cool to have someone on the CB to chat with during the trip.

I spent the last few days redoing the deck on my trailer so it is not unusual to have a lot to prep, most of my camp gear is still in my truck from my last trip so packing is easy this time is all

Ya sure. What time are you going to leave? We were thinking 9 or 10am Thursday. It really doesn't matter just don't want to get there when its dark. I cant wait.:D

I am far from ready. Need to build 2 spare driveshafts and install the woody that came in last week. probably do that stuff Thursday morning.:D

Oh ya GoSlowGetStuck, Is Neal still coming?

My jeep is almost always in moderate running condition because it's my only vehicle, but I very rarely even get everything I planned on done before a trip, much less a week ahead of time. For example, my list of things that "must" get done before next Thursday was about 6 things, I'll be lucky to get two of them done.

10am would be fine. We could meet in Lafayette (out of your way), Frankfort, or Lebanon, either is fine with me. I would also like to arrive before dark. Until this, the farthest from home I've been is Redbird, which is 2.5-3 hours away, so needless to say, I am excited!! Neal is still bringing his Xterra out, he still hasn't fixed his tail light from Redbird so I am going to find him a replacement. I guess he's planning to drive to Texas after wheeling and visit his parents... hopefully he doesn't break anything :D

Glad to know I'm not the only one. My goal was to get at least one axle locked before the trip and I've failed miserably. Lucky for me, I'll have a blast either way.

Brian, I am in the mood (or mode) to pick up some mid and front frame stiffeners. I don't want to add to your pre-Harlan list, but if you bring me sets of each and save me the shipping, I'm happy to pay you cash when I get there. Looks like $230 total to me, let me know if that's cool with you. Otherwise I'll make a trip down to visit you some time, but then I'll bring my XJ and make you weld them on (paying your favorite currency for labor, whatever that may be).
