i'm pretty excited to. i'd redoing my long arms this weekend. Johnny Joints and tube adaptors should be here friday. picking up the tubing on thrusday. just have to get them all welded up and put my front end back together. give the whole jeep a once over and then should be good to go.

Due to unforeseen circumstances that are far beyond our control we are going to have to cancel Halloweenie '06. In case you have have not heard the land at Wellsville is closing. Some areas will remain open, however it seems that most are closed. It is just not worth the risk to hold this ride and possibly end up wheeling in a restricted area.

We just decided this minutes ago and will be posting announcements and calling everyone who registered. We will be cutting checks to refund everyones registration fees and money they paid for t-shirts...unless they decide they still want them. Unfortunately the stickers have already been ordered, printed and paid for. If you ordered stickers you will be getting them. You will receive your checks in the next few weeks.

We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you, but we figured it was beter to cancel now rather than show up and not be able to wheel.

Guys I'm going to try to still put together a trip with the guys I was coming down from Detroit with. I'm thinking Badlands, The Cliffs, or Drummond Island in the MI upper peninsula. I'll keep ya posted.

Am I missing something? According to the news article posted, it seems that this has NEVER been a legal area.

All-terrain vehicle riders come from all over Ohio as well as outside the state. Many transport their vehicles several hours to reach Saline Township. A posting on the internet says the area has 4,000 acres of property on which to ride.

Saline Township Police Chief Ken Hayes says that is not true. It’s a myth because all property is private property belonging to someone and, he says, is off-limits.

If I am incorrect please tell me.

I believe that a recent land sale is the reason for all of this.
Apparently the private landowners were ok with it, and some even charged for access, but the landowner with the majority of the acreage has entered into a lease agreement with a corporation to be the dumping ground for river dredging. At least that's my understanding.

This word is what worries me.

true, I was planning on going, my neighbor had been a few times and had never had any issues, even talked with a landowner about it. I guess the problem arises that there are many adjoining properties, kinda hard to mark property lines effectively in the woods.

My trouble with this is that IF the area is not 100% legal wheeling then it cannot be discussed in this forum. I was under the assumption that this was a legal, clearly marked off-road area. As I am sure you know, as should everyone else, wheeling in areas that are not legal reflects badly on the entire hobby. I am afraid as it sits, I will need proof that this is a legal ORV area to allow this thread to remain. I have never been there, so I do not know. I will PM the original poster for information.

I will give it 24 hours for that proof to surface.

The owner of the majority of the land used for wheeling(Amos Rawson ) has always known that people used his land for offroading, and he never cared. Their are 2 other owners of land that is used for wheeling. They both have camp grounds on their land, and are their mainly to be used by the Trucks/Jeeps/Quads/Buggies that use their land(and the other land out there) to wheel.

Its never been posted as off limits until now. The media story's that I've seen have twisted the info about the land use to make it seem like closing the area was the only thing to do. It comes down to the fact that the land has been sold/leased to be used for other things, and there isn't anything we can do about it at this point.

All of the info on the closing of this land has been posted in this thread. Most of the info posted in this thread(other then the random comments) are from people who have talked to the owners/police/sheriff in the area themselfs. http://www.northeastcrawlers.org/necforum/showthread.php?t=3848

Rev Den I sent you a PM with alittle more info.

I sent you a PM too. I would think that you would want people to know that Wellsville is now off limits.

For more info do a search for Forbidden Zone ATV Park or Oak Tree Sportsmans club.

Yup! This sucks. But it was a land sale. Nothing we as wheelers can do about that. Like someone said they were probably instant millionaires. The area around there is pretty run down and beat up, so I'm sure any kind of good amount these people had dollar signs in there eyes. OH and thanks for keeping the thread open.

A day at the Badlands would be nice. Keep us posted.

me and a couple from work are going to be planning some sort of a trip since this one is canceled. We dont want to drive more than a few hours from where were at (general cleveland area) so were thinking a park in PA like rausch creek...only like 4 hours from where at. or maybe somewhere in michigan...not sure if anyone wants to stay in the area by me.

im heading to a new park by columbus called painted rock. Never been there but its cheap and only 3 hours away. But i would like to get a big trail ride going to a park thats kinda centralized between everyone sometime soon, instead of a spur of the moment thing like happened now. Badlands is kinda close to a lot of people...how about that for a weekend soon?
