grinding while backing up (from the "rear")

every now and then when i back up (manual) the "rear" sounds like its grinding.

what would cause this?

I have an AX-15, and mine does the same thing unless I depress the clutch for five seconds or so, or shift into reverse from a forward gear. I think it's because reverse isn't synchronized, at least in the AX-15.

i was thinking brackes of some sort...cause its not hte tranny...its sounds like the "rear axel"

i guess i have to get the lugs loose and do some inspecting...thanks
