I hear that tires with walnut (or was it pecan??) shell pieces in the tread are more effective and environmentally friendly.

Check out www.treadwright.com. I'm running a set of their 31's and I haven't had any problems. The ones I have don't have the grip compound in them but I've heard good things about it.
