Hm, I never feel comfortable getting into a vehicle that is up on jackstands. Be careful that you don't hit yourself in the mouth or face. I never did that but heard of some people doing so when trying to remove the handle.

You can usually tap the new shift handle with a rubber mallet or the side of your fist, up to you, I'd recommend the rubber mallet but don't go crazy with it!
